Why people look for a Dante AI alternative

Credit first. Dante does a lot for a small business. One "AI brain" trained on your website, files, text and Q&A pairs answers on your site, on WhatsApp and on a voice agent, and it captures leads with no per-lead fee. Reviewers keep praising how easy it is: it has 4.4 from 41 reviews on Trustpilot and 4.8 from 3 on G2. I went through all of it in my Dante AI review and the Dante AI overview.

I build integrations for a living, so the first thing I read on any chatbot is the integrations page, not the homepage. That's where Dante's limits for a support team show up.

Handovers go to a second inbox. Per the Inbox docs, when a visitor taps "Talk to a human," the chat lands in Dante's own team Inbox, where a teammate takes it and replies live. Human handover is only on Advanced and Pro, so the plan most support teams actually need is $120 a month, not $40. The integrations page lists WhatsApp, Zapier, booking tools, WordPress and an API, with no Zendesk, Freshdesk or Gorgias. The Zapier app has one trigger, "New lead," so there's no event for "handover requested." The closest bridge to a helpdesk is an option that emails the full transcript after a chat is resolved. That's a decent human handoff for a two-person shop, and a second queue for everyone else.

The cost per answer moves with the model. Per Dante's credits docs, one live visitor turn costs 1 to 25 credits. Light models like GPT-5.4 Nano cost 1, versatile ones like Claude Sonnet 4.6 cost 10 to 15, and the top tier like GPT-5.6 Sol and Claude Opus 4.7 costs 25, per the AI models docs. Voice is 5 credits a minute. When the balance hits zero, the agent goes offline with a "contact the site owner" message. The 2026 relaunch also cut monthly credits by 33 to 40% on paid plans, and one Trustpilot reviewer had already flagged the confusion:

Trustpilot

"The package section shows relatively low prices, but the FAQ mentions higher rates for certain models, which makes it difficult to understand the actual cost."

Hand-drawn bar chart titled What 8,000 Dante credits buy on the Advanced plan at $120 a month: 8,000 answers on a light model, 533 to 800 on a versatile model, 320 on a premium model, or 1,600 voice minutes

It learns from published content only. The knowledge docs list four source types: website URLs, files, text and Q&A pairs. Past tickets and past conversations aren't one of them. Testing is a Sandbox where you type questions one at a time, plus a side-by-side view for up to four models. There's no replay over your real ticket history. And the voice agent has no documented call transfer, which a G2 reviewer who otherwise loves it called out:

G2

"If anything, I'd love to see human handover added to the voice AI in the future. That would make it a complete solution for us if that happens."

How I picked these alternatives

I'm an engineer at eesel, and I spend my days on the part of the product that connects to helpdesks. We've spent years putting AI on live support queues, and I've watched a confident-sounding bot quietly give wrong answers. That's why every eesel rollout now gets simulated against historical tickets first. It's also why I care less about day-one answer quality than about what happens when the bot isn't sure.

A CX lead at a direct-to-consumer brand doing about 7,000 tickets a month put that worry better than I can on a sales call with us:

"I cannot go and check all my 7,000 tickets to see if the AI actually made a good answer, then the point is a little bit gone. I need an AI who is only handling the tickets that it's confident to handle and all the other ones, leave them alone."

That's the bar a Dante user hits once volume grows. So I scored every tool on four things:

  • Where handovers land. Its own inbox, or your helpdesk.
  • What it learns from. Published content only, or your ticket history too.
  • The billing unit. Per answer by model, per chat, or per ticket.
  • Channels. Website, WhatsApp, and voice, since those are why many people chose Dante.

I read each vendor's pricing page and docs, checked their G2, Capterra and Trustpilot listings, and pulled the most useful user comments I could find. I left Intercom out of this list on purpose.

The table hides one thing that matters more than any single column, so here it is as a picture.

Here's a worked example. Say you get 500 website chats a month, each one takes about 4 AI answers (2,000 answers in total), and you need human handover.

ToolPlan that fitsMonthly costWhy
Dante AI, light modelAdvanced$1202,000 one-credit answers fit in 8,000 credits

ChatbaseStandard$1504,000 credits, if each answer costs 1 on your model
eesel AI500 credits$299500 chats = 500 credits, whatever the answer count

On a light model, Dante is one of the cheapest options here, and I'd rather say that plainly. The bill only gets ugly when you move to a stronger model, so if you switch for price alone, check which model the new tool's quote assumes. The reason to pay more is the handover going into your helpdesk and the AI learning from your tickets.

1. eesel AI

The eesel AI reports dashboard showing task volume, trigger events, and approval usage
The eesel AI reports dashboard showing task volume, trigger events, and approval usage

Best for: support teams that already run a helpdesk and want website chat to feed it, not compete with it.

eesel is an AI teammate platform, and the teammate that replaces Dante for support is the AI helpdesk teammate. It covers the website part with a chat bubble you add with one script tag. The difference is what sits behind it. It joins Zendesk, Freshdesk, Gorgias, Front or Help Scout, so a chat it can't solve becomes a normal ticket in the queue your team already watches. No transcript email, no Zap to babysit.

It learns from past tickets on every plan, alongside your help center, Confluence and Notion. Before launch, its simulation replays hundreds of your past tickets and scores each draft against what your team actually sent, so you can decide which ticket types it handles and which it leaves alone. That's the answer to the "only answer when you're confident" worry above.

Dante users on the Pro plan for its API will find a deeper version here. The eesel CLI drives the same teammate from a terminal or a script, and coding agents like Claude Code or Cursor can operate it too, so you can update knowledge or pull results without opening the dashboard.

Pros

  • Handovers become tickets in your existing helpdesk.
  • Trains on past tickets, macros and help center on every plan.
  • Simulation over your own ticket history before go-live.
  • One ticket or chat = one credit, however many answers it takes.

Cons

  • At $299/month it costs more than Dante on a light model.
  • No voice agent, so it doesn't replace Dante's phone line.
  • More than you need if you have no helpdesk at all.

Pricing: free plan with 100 credits and no card. Paid plans are fixed monthly credit batches: 500 credits for $299, 1,000 for $499, 1,500 for $699, 2,500 for $999, and up, with every feature and unlimited seats included. Optional overage is $0.80 per credit. Full detail on the eesel pricing page.

G2

"In the first month, eesel is resolving 73% of our tier 1 requests, and we saw results quickly during our 7-day trial."

Verdict: the switch to make if Dante's Inbox has turned into a second queue. If you mostly need a phone agent and a lead form, keep Dante or look at Chatbase.

2. Chatbase

The Chatbase analytics view showing total conversations and feedback tracking
The Chatbase analytics view showing total conversations and feedback tracking

Best for: teams that like Dante's one-agent, every-channel idea but need it to talk to a real helpdesk.

Chatbase is the closest thing to Dante on this list. Same core job: train an agent on your site and files, then run it on web chat, WhatsApp and more. It claims 10,000+ businesses. Where it pulls ahead for support teams is integrations: from the Standard plan it lists Zendesk, Salesforce, Freshdesk, Help Scout and Gorgias, so a handover can reach a helpdesk instead of a separate inbox.

It also matches Dante on voice. Voice and telephony arrive on Standard with up to 10 concurrent calls (20 on Pro). Testing is a Playground plus a shareable preview link, and Standard now includes 500 test credits a month. On Pro, "Tickets" becomes a training source through a Zendesk or Salesforce connection.

Pros

  • Voice, telephony and helpdesk handoff in one product.
  • AI actions like order lookups.
  • Past tickets as a source on Pro.

Cons

  • One AI agent per plan up to Pro, with extras at $25/month.
  • Credits per answer depend on the model, the same puzzle as Dante.
  • Branding removal is a $99/month add-on.

Pricing: Free ($0, 50 credits), Hobby ($40/month, 700 credits), Standard ($150/month, 4,000 credits), Pro ($500/month, 15,000 credits), Enterprise custom, with 20% off yearly. Auto-recharge is $40 per 1,000 credits. See my full Chatbase pricing breakdown.

Verdict: the best like-for-like Dante replacement if you want to keep voice and add a helpdesk handoff. My Chatbase review goes deeper, and Chatbase alternatives covers the rest of its shelf.

3. Chatling

The Chatling analytics dashboard showing new conversations, contacts, and a chat-timing heatmap
The Chatling analytics dashboard showing new conversations, contacts, and a chat-timing heatmap

Best for: small teams that want Dante's simplicity with more messaging channels and a bigger review base.

Chatling pitches itself as "the AI support platform built for resolution, not deflection." It trains on your website, sitemaps, documents and FAQs, and deploys to web, WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram and Messenger from the Starter plan. On Growth it adds Zendesk, Zoho and HubSpot integrations, round-robin routing of handed-off chats, and an AI summary on handoff.

Its strongest point against Dante is proof. It has 4.7/5 from 79 reviews on G2, mostly small businesses. I compared it head to head in Chatbase vs Chatling.

G2

"Chatling is super easy to set up and use, which makes deploying a new agent within 30 minutes a big win for me."

Like Dante, it doesn't train on ticket history, and its voice support is voice input in the chat, not a phone line.

Pros

  • Cheap entry and a generous free plan.
  • WhatsApp, Instagram and Telegram from Starter.
  • Large, mostly positive review base.

Cons

  • Credits multiply by model, from 0.5 to 25 per reply.
  • Helpdesk integrations need the $75 Growth plan.

Pricing: Free ($0, 200 credits), Starter ($25/month, 1,750 credits), Growth ($75/month, 6,000 credits), Scale ($295/month, 35,000 credits). My Chatling review has the full credit math.

Verdict: the sidegrade I'd pick if you like Dante but want more messaging channels and more reviews to lean on. Pick a cheap model, or the multiplier eats the savings, exactly as it does on Dante.

4. Landbot

An animated tour of the Landbot homepage showing its no-code AI agent builder for websites and WhatsApp, captured from Landbot

Best for: marketing and sales teams that use Dante mainly to qualify leads and run WhatsApp conversations.

Landbot is a no-code builder that mixes structured button flows with an AI agent, for "sales, support, and bookings." If your Dante setup is mostly a lead form with a brain, Landbot's visual flow builder gives you much tighter control over the path a visitor takes. It's a Meta partner, and its onboarding team handles the WhatsApp Business API application for you. It's also the most-reviewed tool on this list, with 4.7/5 from 334 reviews on G2.

G2

"It was very easy and visually appealing for our team to work with while building the chatbot, mainly because we could clearly see the entire branching flow and test it as we went."

For support teams, it shares Dante's main gap. Human takeover goes to Landbot's shared inbox, and the CRM integrations (HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, Zoho) start on Professional. There's no ticket history as a training source and no voice agent. My guide to the best WhatsApp chatbot tools compares it with others in that niche.

Pros

  • Visual flow builder for precise lead qualification.
  • Strong WhatsApp support, with the API application handled for you.
  • Huge review base.

Cons

  • Three meters: chats, AI chats and WhatsApp messages.
  • WhatsApp is an $88/month add-on on Professional.

Pricing: Free ($0, 100 chats, no AI chats), Starter ($36/month yearly or $45 monthly, 500 chats, 100 AI chats), Professional ($88/month yearly or $110 monthly, 2,500 chats, 300 AI chats), Business custom. Extra AI chats are $0.10 each and extra chats $0.05, per the Landbot pricing page.

Verdict: the right move if Dante is your lead-gen bot, not your support bot. For lead generation, the flow builder is worth the extra meters.

5. SiteSpeak AI

SiteSpeak Inbox showing a conversation list and a thread where a visitor asks "Can you escalate to a human please?" and a support agent takes over, as taken from SiteSpeak's site

Best for: a small site that wants a cheap, predictable website bot and doesn't need voice.

SiteSpeak AI is the price-focused option. It trains on your site, PDFs, audio and video, plus wikis like Notion and Confluence, and answers in 95+ languages. The big difference from Dante is the meter: one credit is one AI reply whichever model you choose, which works out to roughly 2.5 to 2.9 cents per reply on every plan. If Dante's model-based credit costs are what's bugging you, that flat rate is the fix.

The trade-off is that it has the same shape as Dante for support teams. Escalation starts on Pro and lands in SiteSpeak's own Inbox, with no native helpdesk integration. It has no voice agent or WhatsApp channel, either. Its G2 profile is young but positive, with 5.0 from 8 reviews on G2.

Pros

  • Flat cost per reply, whatever the model.
  • Cheapest handover plan on this list at $79.
  • API and MCP access from Pro.

Cons

  • No voice or WhatsApp, so it can't replace Dante's phone line.
  • Handover still goes to a second inbox.

Pricing: Free ($0, 30 credits), Starter ($29/month, 1,000 credits), Pro ($79/month, 3,000 credits), Growth ($249/month, 10,000 credits), Business ($499/month, 20,000 credits). Extra credits are $25 per 1,000. See my SiteSpeak AI review for the per-reply math.

Verdict: a smart downgrade if you only ever used Dante on your website and want a bill you can predict. If you need the phone or a helpdesk, look elsewhere. My SiteSpeak AI alternatives list covers its own shelf.

6. DocsBot

The DocsBot dashboard showing bots, sources, and monthly AI credit usage, as taken from DocsBot
The DocsBot dashboard showing bots, sources, and monthly AI credit usage, as taken from DocsBot

Best for: teams that want a website bot that learns from their ticket history, without moving the AI into the helpdesk.

DocsBot is a doc-first chatbot builder with a long list of sources. For Dante users, the interesting part is that the list includes support tickets from Zendesk, Freshdesk, Help Scout, Salesforce and Zoho Desk, starting on the Standard plan. That fills Dante's biggest training gap. Standard also adds escalation ticket creation, a Help Scout integration, and realtime voice agents, so you don't lose the voice side either.

It's still a widget next to your helpdesk rather than a teammate inside it. The public review base is small, with 4.3/5 from 3 reviews on G2.

G2

"It's accuracy and correctness is good and it support big and multiple Documents."

Pros

  • Ticket history as a training source from Standard.
  • Realtime voice agents on Standard.
  • Citations and an MCP server.

Cons

  • Credit multipliers per model, like Dante.
  • Support features like escalation tickets start at $149.

Pricing: Free ($0, 100 credits), Personal ($49/month, 5,000 credits), Standard ($149/month, 15,000 credits), Business ($499/month, 60,000 credits), Enterprise custom, with two months free on yearly billing. Extra credits are $49 per 5,000. More in my DocsBot pricing post and DocsBot review.

Verdict: the best fit if your main complaint about Dante is "it doesn't know what we told customers last year." If the complaint is the second inbox, go helpdesk-native instead.

7. Tidio

Tidio Lyro analytics showing AI conversations broken down by customer intent, as taken from Tidio
Tidio Lyro analytics showing AI conversations broken down by customer intent, as taken from Tidio

Best for: small stores that want live chat, a ticket inbox and an AI agent in one product.

Tidio comes at the problem from the other side. It's a live chat and helpdesk tool first, with the Lyro AI agent on top, and it covers web chat, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp and email. The "second inbox" problem goes away because Tidio's inbox becomes your main one. Lyro learns from your website, files, Shopify products and Zendesk help center, and it can pull Q&A pairs out of solved live chats.

Billing is the most different on this list. Base plans count billable conversations, and Lyro is a separate add-on counted per AI conversation, not per answer. Some users find the meter hard to follow:

Capterra

"There is a limit of conversations, and of course, limits for a free version should be, but in the limit software is calculating even the greeting to visitors, which I don't know how to turn off now."

Pros

  • Chat, tickets and AI in one tool.
  • Lyro counts per conversation, not per answer.
  • Learns from solved chats.

Cons

  • Two meters to watch: base conversations and Lyro conversations.
  • No voice agent, and switching means moving your support into Tidio.

Pricing: Free (50 billable conversations), Starter from $24.17/month, Growth from $49.17/month, Plus $300/month, Premium custom. The Lyro add-on starts at $32.50/month for 50 AI conversations. See Tidio pricing and Lyro AI pricing.

Verdict: a good move for a small shop with no helpdesk yet that wants one place for everything. If you already run Zendesk or Freshdesk, adding a second platform defeats the point. My Tidio review and Tidio alternatives have the full picture.

How to choose your Dante AI alternative

Start with what you actually use Dante for. Most people bought it for one of five jobs, and each job points somewhere different.

Hand-drawn decision flow starting from What do you use Dante AI for: WhatsApp and lead flows leads to Landbot or Chatling, voice and phone calls leads to Chatbase, support queue in Zendesk or Freshdesk leads to eesel, cheap website bot leads to SiteSpeak AI, and chat and helpdesk in one leads to Tidio

Whichever you pick, check two things before you switch: which model the new tool's price assumes, and where a handover lands. Then run 30 or 40 real questions from your inbox through it, awkward ones included. The problems that sink chatbots rarely show up in a vendor demo, and my best AI chatbots roundup has more tools if none of these fit.

Try eesel for handovers that land in your helpdesk

If you're moving off Dante because handovers keep piling up in an inbox nobody checks, eesel fixes that directly. Its AI helpdesk teammate answers in a chat bubble on your site, hands anything it can't solve to your team as a real ticket in Zendesk, Freshdesk or Help Scout, and learns from the replies your team already wrote. You can run it against hundreds of your past tickets before it talks to anyone, and the bill is one credit per chat, whatever model sits behind it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best Dante AI alternative?

For teams that already work a queue in Zendesk, Freshdesk or Help Scout, eesel's AI helpdesk teammate is the best Dante AI alternative, because handovers become real tickets and it learns from past tickets. For a standalone bot with voice, Chatbase is the closest match, and Landbot is the pick for WhatsApp lead flows.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Dante AI?

On light models, Dante AI is already cheap: Advanced is $120/month for 8,000 one-credit answers. SiteSpeak AI starts at $29 and Chatling at $25, but human handover on SiteSpeak needs the $79 Pro plan. See my SiteSpeak AI pricing post and the list of free AI chatbots for lower-cost options.

Does Dante AI integrate with Zendesk or Freshdesk?

No. Dante AI's integrations are WhatsApp, Zapier, booking tools, WordPress and an API on Pro. Handover happens in Dante's own Inbox, and the only bridge to a helpdesk is a transcript email after a chat is resolved. eesel, Chatbase and Chatling all connect to Zendesk. My Zendesk AI chatbot guide covers the options.

Which Dante AI alternative has a voice agent?

Chatbase includes voice and telephony from its $150 Standard plan, and DocsBot adds realtime voice agents on its $149 Standard plan. Dante charges 5 credits per minute and has no documented call transfer to a human. My roundup of AI voice agents goes deeper.

How does Dante AI pricing compare to Chatbase?

Dante AI runs $40, $120 and $400 a month, with 1 to 25 credits per answer depending on the model. Chatbase runs $40, $150 and $500 a month in message credits that also vary by model. Chatbase adds native helpdesk integrations. Compare Chatbase pricing with my Dante AI review.

Can any Dante AI alternative train on past support tickets?

Yes. eesel trains on past tickets on every plan, DocsBot from its Standard plan, Chatbase on Pro through Zendesk or Salesforce, and Tidio's Lyro can pull Q&A from solved chats. Dante AI learns from website pages, files, text and Q&A pairs only. That gap is a big reason AI chatbots answer wrong.

Is Dante AI good for small businesses?

Yes, for a small business with no helpdesk that wants website chat, a phone line and lead capture under one plan. Budget for Advanced at $120, since handover, lead capture and phone numbers start there. Once your team works a ticket queue, my AI helpdesk for small business roundup covers the next step.

What should I test before switching from Dante AI?

Run 30 to 40 real customer questions through the new tool, check which model it uses and what each answer costs, and confirm where a handover lands. eesel can replay hundreds of your past tickets and score its drafts before go-live. My list of AI chatbot problems shows what to look for.
