How much does Chatra cost?
Chatra has three plans. Free is for one person trying the widget, Essential is the working plan for a small store, and Pro adds reporting and integrations. Paid plans are billed per agent seat, with unlimited chats.

Here is the full ladder, checked against the plans page and the Shopify listing on October 21, 2026:
| Free | Essential | Pro | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly billing | $0 | $31 per agent | $41 per agent |
| Yearly billing | $0 | $25 per agent a month ($300 a year) | $33 per agent a month ($396 a year) |
| Yearly saving | n/a | 19% | 20% |
| Agents | 1 | Per paid seat | Per paid seat |
| Chats a month | 5 | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Email, Messenger, Instagram | No | Yes | Yes |
| Chatbot, form bot, targeted messages | Offline form bot only | Yes | Yes |
| Live visitor list | Basic visitor info only | Up to 10 visitors per paid seat | Up to 10 visitors per paid seat |
| Shopping cart contents | No | Yes | Yes |
| Saved replies, chat notes, team chats | No | Yes | Yes |
| Operating hours, agent groups | No | No | Yes |
| Chat ratings, reports, data export | No | No | Yes |
| Slack, Help Scout, Zapier | No | No | Yes |
| REST API, webhooks | No | No | Yes |
| AI agent | None | None | None |
| Trial | Not needed | 10 days, no card | 10 days, no card |
On Shopify, the app listing adds that charges are billed in USD every 30 days. If you have read other live chat pricing breakdowns, this is the classic per-seat shape: a low headline number that grows with your team, not with your traffic.
What does Chatra cost for your team size?
The per-agent price looks small until you multiply it. Here is what Chatra pricing comes to for four common team sizes, on monthly billing:

| Team | Essential monthly | Essential yearly | Pro monthly | Pro yearly |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 agent | $31/mo ($372 a year) | $300 a year | $41/mo ($492 a year) | $396 a year |
| 3 agents | $93/mo ($1,116 a year) | $900 a year | $123/mo ($1,476 a year) | $1,188 a year |
| 5 agents | $155/mo ($1,860 a year) | $1,500 a year | $205/mo ($2,460 a year) | $1,980 a year |
| 10 agents | $310/mo ($3,720 a year) | $3,000 a year | $410/mo ($4,920 a year) | $3,960 a year |
The gap between Essential and Pro is $10 per agent a month, which sounds like nothing for one person and comes to $1,200 a year for a ten-person team. A store owner on the Shopify listing thought the step up was worth it:
"Based on your desires and business needs, the pro version is well worth the price compared to others."
Not everyone agrees. A G2 reviewer who liked the product still called the subscription fee "much higher compared to the market price," per Chowdary P. on G2. Both are right, and the calculator below shows why: it depends on how many people you are paying for.
Pick a plan, your number of agents and how you pay. It shows your Chatra bill, what yearly billing saves, and what the same headcount costs on Crisp, which charges per workspace instead of per agent.
Set your plan, team size and billing to see your Chatra bill per month and per year, next to the same team on Crisp.
The pattern is worth noticing. For one or two agents, Chatra is one of the cheaper ways to staff a chat widget. Somewhere around three or four people, per-workspace tools like Crisp start to undercut it, and by ten agents the gap is large.
What does each Chatra plan unlock?
The plan names do not tell you much, so here is what you are actually paying for at each step.
Free: a test drive, not a plan
Free gives one agent the chat widget, the mobile apps, basic visitor info and the offline contact form, and stops at 5 chats a month. It used to allow 20, and long-time users noticed: one merchant of two years said the cut "almost forces you into paying to upgrade," per Plinthy's review. Email, Messenger, Instagram, the chatbot and triggers are all locked. Treat Free as a way to see the widget on your theme before the 10-day trial, nothing more. If free is the priority, Shopify Inbox or the tools in my tawk.to alternatives list go further at $0.
Essential: the plan most small stores need
Essential at $31 is where Chatra becomes a working tool: unlimited chats, the email helpdesk, Facebook Messenger and Instagram in one inbox, the button chatbot and form bot, targeted messages, the real-time visitor list and the shopper's cart contents next to the chat. For pre-sale chat on a Shopify store, the cart view and live chat triggers are most of the value, and both are here.
Pro: reporting and plumbing for $10 more
Pro adds everything a manager or a developer would ask for. The $10 step is easiest to see side by side:

The two that push most teams to Pro are operating hours and chat reports. Without operating hours you cannot tell the widget when you are open. Without reports you cannot see response times or chat ratings, which is the first thing anyone asks once a second person joins. If your chats feed a Help Scout inbox or you want the REST API, that is Pro too.
What are the hidden costs in Chatra pricing?
None of these are hidden in the sense of fine print; they are all on the plans page. They are hidden in the sense that the $31 headline does not show them.
- Every person is a seat. Part-time staff, a founder who covers weekends, a contractor in another time zone: each needs a paid seat to answer chats. Chatra's Free plan covers one agent only.
- The visitor list caps at 10 people per paid seat. A one-seat store sees 10 live visitors at once. To watch more, you pay for more seats.
- Reports live on Pro. Most teams past two agents want them, so budget for $41, not $31.
- AI is a second bill. Chatra has no AI agent to buy. Its bot follows button scenarios you build, so a shopper who types a question outside the buttons waits for a person. Adding AI means another tool, and another subscription. My guide to AI chatbots vs live chat explains where each one fits.
- Plan changes can get messy. A long-time user hit a billing problem when switching back to monthly, and needed support to sort it out:
"We recently had a problem with our subscription plan which we needed to change to a monthly plan, and for which we had confusing information which resulted in a very frustrating situation."
The same reviewer said Brevo's support fixed it "in no time," which matches how often merchants name Chatra's reps in reviews. Still, it is worth reading your plan terms before you switch billing periods.
Should you pay Chatra monthly or yearly?
Yearly billing saves $72 per agent a year on Essential and $96 on Pro. On a five-person Pro team, that is $480 back. Normally I would tell anyone happy with a tool to take that deal.
Chatra is a special case. Its Brevo FAQ says Chatra "will keep working as an independent app" but "we will not be releasing any new features in Chatra. They will be released in Brevo Conversations only." Paying a year up front locks you into a product that will not change for the whole of that year, and possibly beyond.
On one of eesel's sales calls, a budget-conscious buyer who had watched a previous vendor's price more than double asked to pay yearly specifically to lock the price in. That is the right instinct when the product keeps improving. With Chatra, the price is not the thing at risk; the roadmap is. My rule of thumb:
- Pay yearly if you have used Chatra for a year, it does everything you need, and you do not want AI.
- Pay monthly if you are new to it, if you might need WhatsApp or AI in the next twelve months, or if you are already thinking about moving.
Chatra vs Brevo Conversations: which is cheaper?
Brevo owns Chatra now, and it wants Chatra customers to move. Chatra's own FAQ makes the price pitch directly: "Brevo's chat tools (called Conversations) are less expensive than Chatra. Join the Pro plan for only 13€/month instead of 41€/month."
That FAQ quotes euro prices and older plan names. On Brevo's current pricing page, chat sits inside its Sales packages ("custom pipelines, sales automation, chat & more"): Sales Free at $0 with one seat, and Sales Essentials at $27.92 a month with one seat included, shown with Brevo's 10% yearly discount selected. Brevo's Conversations page lists live chat, a chatbot, a universal inbox that includes WhatsApp, meetings, phone and an AI assistant called Aura that summarizes chats and rewrites replies.
So on price alone, Brevo is cheaper for one person and adds WhatsApp. The cost that does not show up on either pricing page is the move itself. The same Chatra FAQ answers "If I switch to Brevo, can I transfer my conversations and settings?" with "Unfortunately, it is not possible for now." You set up your widget, bot, triggers and saved replies again, and your chat history stays in Chatra.
How does Chatra pricing compare to alternatives?
The tools Chatra users look at bill in very different ways, and that matters more than the headline price. Here is each one priced from its own pricing page:
| Tool | Billing unit | Entry price | What a 5-person team pays | AI |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chatra | Per agent | $31/agent/mo (Essential) | $155/mo Essential, $205/mo Pro | None |
| Brevo | Per seat, in Sales packages | $0 (Sales Free, 1 seat) | Depends on seats added | Aura assistant |
| Crisp | Per workspace | $45/mo (Mini, 4 seats) | $95/mo (Essentials, 10 seats) | AI credits included |
| Tidio | Per conversation | $24.17/mo yearly (Starter, 100 conversations) | Depends on conversation volume | Lyro, priced separately |
| Gorgias | Per ticket, never per agent | $10/mo (Starter, 50 tickets) | $60/mo (Basic, 300 tickets) | AI Agent add-on |
| Help Scout | Per user | $25/user/mo (Standard) | $125/mo on Standard | AI Answers at $0.75 per resolution |
| eesel | Per chat or ticket (credits) | $299/mo for 500 credits | Same, seats unlimited | The whole product |
A few things jump out. Crisp's flat workspace price means a ten-person team pays $95 a month on Essentials, against $410 on Chatra Pro. The Crisp alternatives list goes further.

Gorgias is the other big shift. Its pricing page says the helpdesk is "never priced per agent", so you pay for ticket volume instead of headcount, with the AI Agent as an add-on. For a Shopify store with five people and a few hundred tickets a month, that changes the math entirely. My Gorgias plans comparison and Gorgias pricing for Shopify guide walk through each tier.

For Tidio, the unit is billable conversations, and its Lyro AI chatbot is priced on its own conversation count. Help Scout is per user like Chatra, but it adds AI Answers at $0.75 per resolution. If you want the full field of Shopify-first chat apps, I have pricing breakdowns for Willdesk, Chatty, Chatway, MooseDesk and Re:amaze.
When should you pay for Chatra, and when should you move?
Every Chatra customer is in one of three lanes right now, and each has a different cost.

Stay on Chatra if one to three people answer chats during business hours, most chats are pre-sale questions you handle live, and you do not need WhatsApp or AI. At $31 to $123 a month, it is fair value for what it does, and it will keep working.
Move to Brevo if you are already using Brevo for email marketing, or you want WhatsApp in the same inbox. You save money on one seat and gain the CRM, but you start again from an empty inbox.
Move to a helpdesk with AI if you are paying for four or more seats, you need answers outside business hours, or the same questions arrive every day. The bill can be bigger, but you stop paying for headcount to answer "where is my order?" My guides to the best helpdesk for ecommerce, Gorgias alternatives for Shopify and the best Shopify chatbot apps cover where to land. If you are comparing the two most common destinations, start with Gorgias vs Tidio.
One honest note from eesel's own trials: a Gorgias store testing eesel ran 12 test chats, liked the answers, then saw the billing page and asked to cancel straight away. Price shock is real, and it is why I would rather you see every number here than find them after a trial.
Where eesel fits after Chatra
eesel does not integrate with Chatra, so it is not an add-on to your current setup. It is an AI teammate for the helpdesk you move to, or the chat on your site if you would rather have no helpdesk at all. The AI helpdesk teammate works inside Gorgias, Zendesk or Freshdesk, reads your help center, store pages and past tickets, and looks up orders in Shopify before it answers. The chat bubble does the same on your website.
The pricing is the opposite of Chatra's. There is no seat fee: eesel is free to try with 100 credits, then $299 a month for 500 credits or $499 for 1,000, per the eesel pricing page, where one chat or ticket is one credit however long it runs. Add as many teammates as you like. If you have one person free to answer chats during the day, Chatra Essential at $31 is far cheaper, and I would say so to anyone. eesel earns its price when the questions come at night, on weekends, or 300 times a month.
Three Shopify stores show what that looks like in practice:
- Question Beauty runs eesel on Gorgias across Messenger, email and website chat. In one month it handled about 990 tickets, looked up about 290 Shopify orders before answering, and closed about 280 tickets without a person. Refunds and complaints go to the team with a note attached.
- ClutchLoop runs eesel as "Loopy" on Gorgias and its website chat. It handled about 230 tickets and 27 website chats in a month, sending about 180 replies directly and checking 76 products live in Shopify for prices and stock.
- STIL Classics keeps a person on every reply. eesel prepared about 320 Gorgias tickets in a month, looked up about 230 Shopify orders, and left about 430 draft replies as internal notes for the team to check and send.
For more on the jobs these stores hand off, see my guides to WISMO automation and AI for pre-purchase questions. And if what you really want from a move is WhatsApp, my list of the best AI for WhatsApp covers it.
Try eesel on your Shopify store
If you are about to add a fourth Chatra seat so someone can cover evenings, try an AI teammate first. eesel answers your store's chats and helpdesk tickets from your pages and Shopify orders, hands refunds and complaints to your team, and costs the same whether two people or ten work the queue. Try eesel free with 100 credits and run it on last month's real questions before a shopper ever sees it.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does Chatra cost per month?
Chatra costs $31 per agent a month on Essential and $41 per agent a month on Pro with monthly billing, or $25 and $33 a month per agent billed yearly. The Free plan is $0 for one agent and 5 chats a month. My Chatra review covers what you get for that Chatra pricing beyond the numbers.
Is Chatra free?
Chatra has a Free plan for one agent, capped at 5 chats a month, with the chat widget, mobile apps and an offline form bot. Email, Messenger, Instagram and the chatbot need a paid plan. For other free tiers, see my Shopify live chat apps list.
What is the difference between Chatra Essential and Pro?
Pro adds $10 per agent a month and unlocks chat reports, chat ratings, data export, operating hours, agent groups, the Slack, Help Scout and Zapier integrations, the REST API and outgoing webhooks. Essential already has unlimited chats, every channel and the chatbot. If you only need reports, compare Crisp pricing, which bills per workspace.
Does Chatra charge per agent?
Yes. Every person who answers chats needs a paid seat on Essential or Pro, and the live visitor list shows up to 10 visitors per paid seat. Helpdesks such as Gorgias price by ticket volume instead; my Gorgias plans comparison shows how that works.
How much do you save with Chatra yearly billing?
Yearly billing brings Essential to $300 per agent a year, a 19% saving, and Pro to $396 per agent a year, a 20% saving. That is $72 or $96 per agent a year. Given Chatra gets no new features, I would weigh that against staying flexible; my chatbot cost guide covers other ways to pay.
Is Brevo Conversations cheaper than Chatra?
Chatra's own FAQ says Brevo's chat tools cost less, and Brevo's pricing page lists a Sales Free tier at $0 and Sales Essentials at $27.92 a month with one seat included. The catch is that your Chatra conversations and settings cannot move to Brevo. My guide to live chat for ecommerce lists more options.
Does Chatra pricing include AI?
No. Chatra has no AI add-on to buy because it has no generative AI; its chatbot follows button scenarios you build. Adding an AI agent means a second bill. My roundup of AI live chat apps compares tools that include it.
Does eesel work with Chatra?
No, eesel does not connect to Chatra. It works as an AI teammate inside the helpdesk you move to, such as Gorgias, Zendesk or Freshdesk, or as its own chat bubble on your store, priced by chats and tickets rather than by seat.
