MooseDesk pricing at a glance

MooseDesk (listed on Shopify as "Moose AI Chatbot & Live Chat") is a Shopify-only helpdesk from Vegahub Technology Inc. It bundles an AI chatbot, a live chat widget, a shared inbox and an FAQ page builder, and it holds 5.0 stars from 486 reviews on its listing. If you want the full product tour first, my MooseDesk review covers it.

How MooseDesk bills you

MooseDesk doesn't charge you directly. Its pricing FAQ says Shopify adds the app fee to your Shopify subscription, and the listing says "All charges are billed in USD. Recurring and usage-based charges are billed every 30 days." You see the history in your Shopify admin, next to your other Shopify apps.

Four billing details worth knowing:

  • Monthly only. Neither the pricing page nor the listing shows an annual price, so there's no discount for paying a year upfront.
  • 7-day free trial on every paid plan. You can cancel during the trial.
  • Cancel any time from Shopify admin. Access continues until the end of the billing period you've paid for.
  • Downgrading keeps your data. The FAQ says only access and features change.

The page headline promises "flexible usage-based pricing," and the listing mentions usage-based charges, but I couldn't find a single usage price anywhere. As far as the published numbers go, MooseDesk is a flat monthly fee per plan.

What's free, and what you pay for

The billing unit is the first thing I check, and MooseDesk's is unusual. Most AI chat apps meter the AI: Chatty counts AI conversations, and Chatway counts every conversation plus $0.50 per AI resolution. MooseDesk does the opposite. The FAQ says "All plans include unlimited AI chatbot replies," and a reply only counts when the AI responds, not when a person does.

Hand-drawn infographic: included on every plan are unlimited AI replies, Messenger and Instagram, unlimited FAQs and AI handover; what you pay for is team seats, products the AI learns, email inboxes and ticket volume

So your bill grows with your business, not with your chat traffic. A store that gets a sudden burst of AI chats during a sale pays the same that month. A store that hires a third support person, adds a 600th product, or connects a second support inbox pays more.

One small wrinkle: the same FAQ also describes pricing as including "AI chatbot replies (monthly quota of AI-powered responses)." Every plan card and the compare table say Unlimited, so I read that line as leftover wording, but it's worth a screenshot of your plan page when you sign up.

Each MooseDesk plan, and who it fits

The plans step up in four quite different ways, so it helps to look at what each step actually unlocks.

Hand-drawn staircase of MooseDesk plans: Free $0 with 1 seat and 100 products, Starter $19 adds 1 email inbox, Growth $49 adds 300 tickets a month, Business $249 has 2,000 tickets and unlimited seats, with a +$200 jump between Growth and Business

Free: $0 a month

Free gets you the AI chatbot with unlimited replies, 1 team member, 100 products for AI training, Messenger and Instagram in the inbox, unlimited FAQs and free FAQ templates. The Shopify listing adds unlimited chat history and detailed analytics.

What's missing: email, tickets, the welcome message, tone and length controls, and integrations like TrackingMore for richer order tracking. For a one-person store with a small catalog, that's a real AI chatbot for nothing, which is rare. The most common wish in the reviews is a little more polish on this plan:

Shopify

"I do wish there were more customization options available on the free plan... Kelly was very helpful in resolving an issue where the bot wasn't recognizing my product information when customers asked questions."

Starter: $19 a month

Starter is the "Most popular" plan. It adds 3 team members, 500 products, 1 email channel, all widget skins, premium FAQ templates, the language switcher, a custom widget, and the BON Loyalty and TrackingMore integrations. It also unlocks the AI's welcome message, tone of voice and response length.

One thing I can't square: Starter includes 1 email channel, but the compare table lists no ticket volume for it. Ticket management features start on Growth. If your plan is to run your support@ inbox through MooseDesk on Starter, ask MooseDesk how those emails are handled before you count on it. For stores whose questions are mostly pre-purchase questions in chat, Starter is the sweet spot.

Growth: $49 a month

Growth is where MooseDesk becomes a helpdesk. You get 10 team members, 5,000 products, unlimited email channels, 300 tickets a month, Shopify customer sync, customer import, Shopify order creation and the advanced ticket features.

The listing also lists "Priority support" on Growth, while the website's compare table shows it only on Business. I'd treat the website as the current source and not pay for Growth on the strength of priority support alone.

Business: $249 a month

Business adds unlimited team members, 20,000 products, 2,000 tickets a month and priority support. The listing adds a "Dedicated support service." It's five times the price of Growth, and the extra $200 buys you mostly headroom: 1,700 more tickets, 15,000 more products and as many seats as you like.

The ticket caps are where pricing gets real

For most small stores, ticket volume is the limit that decides the plan. Here's the ticketing part of the compare table:

MooseDesk compare table ticketing rows: email channels none, 1, unlimited, unlimited; ticket volume 300 a month on Growth and 2,000 a month on Business; Shopify customer sync and order creation on Growth and Business, as taken from MooseDesk

If you divide the plan price by its allowance, a full Growth plan works out to about 16 cents per ticket and a full Business plan to about 12 cents.

Hand-drawn bar chart: Growth at $49 for 300 tickets is about 16 cents per ticket, Business at $249 for 2,000 tickets is about 12 cents per ticket, and what happens past the cap is not published
Hand-drawn bar chart: Growth at $49 for 300 tickets is about 16 cents per ticket, Business at $249 for 2,000 tickets is about 12 cents per ticket, and what happens past the cap is not published

Those are cheap per-ticket numbers. Two things make them less tidy in practice:

  1. The step is all or nothing. At 301 tickets a month you're on the $249 plan, so your per-ticket cost at 301 is about 83 cents, not 12. The cheap rate only applies if you fill the plan.
  2. Overage isn't documented. MooseDesk doesn't say whether ticket 301 on Growth gets blocked, queued or charged. The listing's line about "usage-based charges" hints at something, but there's no price on it. Ask before your holiday spike, not during it.

The spam lesson from the opener applies here too. MooseDesk doesn't say whether spam, auto-replies or out-of-office emails count as tickets. If 22% of your inbox is junk, like that jewelry brand's was, a 300-ticket plan behaves more like a 234-ticket plan. My post on AI spam filtering covers how stores keep that noise out.

To size your volume, start from orders. One DTC supplements brand on Gorgias and Shopify that came to eesel for a demo was doing about 30,000 orders and about 7,000 tickets a month, a 25 to 30% ticket-to-order ratio. At 25%, a store with 1,200 orders a month is already at Growth's 300-ticket cap. A good WISMO automation setup brings that ratio down, but it doesn't change which plan your raw inbox needs.

The product limit is the sneaky one

The second limit people miss is how many products the AI learns: 100 on Free, 500 on Starter, 5,000 on Growth and 20,000 on Business. MooseDesk's AI answers from three sources only: Q&A pairs you write, articles in its FAQ builder, and your synced Shopify products. So if your catalog is bigger than your plan's limit, the AI simply doesn't know the rest of your products.

That means a store with 800 products and no email at all still needs Growth at $49, not Starter at $19, for the bot to know the whole catalog. A store like Cape Coffee Beans, which sells coffee and equipment with more than a thousand products that change all the time, would land on Growth for products alone.

It's also worth knowing what the AI doesn't learn from. It doesn't read your past tickets or crawl your website, so every answer it gives comes from the Q&A and FAQs you write and keep current. That writing time is a real cost the price list doesn't show. One merchant trained the bot on 120 common questions, which is a solid afternoon of work, plus upkeep every time a policy changes. If you'd rather the AI learn from replies you've already sent, my guide on training AI on past tickets explains how that works.

Find your MooseDesk plan

Put in your own numbers and the calculator below picks the cheapest plan that covers all four limits, shows which limit forced it, and flags anything MooseDesk doesn't publish. Prices are from MooseDesk's pricing page on October 21, 2026.

What real stores would pay: four examples

Here's how the limits play out for four store shapes. The prices are MooseDesk's; the store shapes are illustrations, except where I name a source.

StoreProductsPeopleEmail tickets/monthPlanMonthly cost
New store, owner answers chats6010Free$0
Small brand, two people on chat40020Starter$19
Growing store with a big catalog8003150Growth$49
Busy DTC brand3004990Business$249

The third row is the one I'd point out: 800 products alone pushes you off Starter, before you even look at tickets.

The fourth row matches a real eesel customer's volume. Question Beauty, a cosmetics brand on Gorgias and Shopify, saw about 990 Gorgias tickets in a month, from email, Messenger and chat. On MooseDesk that volume means Business at $249, and it sits at about half the cap, so there's room for a sale month.

Hidden costs and gotchas

MooseDesk's price list is short and easy to read, which I like. These are the costs that sit outside it:

  • Writing the AI's knowledge. The AI learns from Q&A pairs, FAQ articles and products, so someone has to write and maintain those. My guide to deflecting FAQs with AI and this list of ecommerce FAQ examples help, but the time is yours.
  • The Growth-to-Business jump. There's no plan between $49 and $249. If you need 11 seats or 301 tickets, you pay for 2,000 tickets and unlimited seats.
  • No annual discount. With monthly-only pricing, Business is $2,988 a year with no way to bring it down.
  • WhatsApp is a button. MooseDesk's WhatsApp option is a widget skin that opens WhatsApp, not an inbox channel, so WhatsApp chats don't land in MooseDesk. If you need that, see my post on AI WhatsApp support.
  • The mobile app is a web app. It installs to your home screen from a QR code, so test that notifications reach your phone before you rely on it.
  • Mixed wording across pages. Priority support shows on Growth in the Shopify listing but only on Business on the website, and an older help doc still says MooseDesk "is available for free for all." When pages disagree, I go with the current pricing page and get the answer in writing from support.

Compared with most helpdesks, though, the list is short. There are no per-resolution fees, no AI add-on and no setup fee. And the support team gets thanked by name in review after review. One Australian store moved over from a much bigger helpdesk for exactly this reason:

Shopify

"So many online chat options to consider. We've used zendesk for years and cost just continued to rise. We are a small business <5 staff, zendesk too expensive. Switch to Moosedesk about 8 weeks ago. Everything to date has been great. Excellent service from Mia and now we're not paying for online chat. Win-win."

How MooseDesk pricing compares

Shopify support apps bill in very different units, so the sticker price only tells part of the story. Here's MooseDesk next to two other Shopify chat apps I've priced recently, plus eesel, all from each vendor's own pricing page:

ToolPlansWhat you're billed onAI costSeatsAI product limit
MooseDesk$0 / $19 / $49 / $249 a monthSeats, products, inboxes, ticketsUnlimited replies, included1 / 3 / 10 / unlimited100 / 500 / 5,000 / 20,000

eeselFree 100-credit trial, then $299 for 500 credits up to $1,749 for 5,000Tickets or chats the AI works (1 credit each)Included in creditsUnlimitedLooks up your live Shopify catalog

MooseDesk is the cheapest way here to get an AI chatbot that never sends you a usage bill. It gets less competitive when you need a real helpdesk with high ticket volume, because the ticket caps and the single $200 step do the billing that per-conversation fees do elsewhere.

If you're weighing MooseDesk against a full helpdesk, my Zendesk pricing breakdown covers the biggest one. For a helpdesk built around Shopify, my Richpanel pricing post is the closer match.

For more Shopify chat options, see my list of Shopify live chat apps. Shopify's own Shopify Inbox is free too, if all you need is a place to answer chats yourself.

Is MooseDesk worth the price?

For a small Shopify store, yes. Free and Starter give you an AI chatbot with unlimited replies, Messenger and Instagram, product cards and an FAQ builder for $0 or $19 a month, and I don't know another Shopify app that matches that on price. Growth at $49 is fair for a store with up to 300 email tickets and a few people.

Where I'd slow down is Business. At $249 a month you're paying helpdesk money, and you're still on a chat-first app whose AI only knows what you've written for it. If your support has grown to that size, it often already lives in a helpdesk, and the better question is how to get AI into that helpdesk. My guide to the best AI helpdesk for Shopify and my list of Gorgias alternatives for Shopify are good next reads.

Whatever you pick, test the AI on real questions before it goes live, and plan the handoff to a person.

Try eesel when your Shopify support outgrows a chat app

To be clear up front: eesel does not integrate with MooseDesk. eesel is an AI helpdesk teammate for Shopify stores whose tickets live in Gorgias, Zendesk or Freshdesk. It connects to your Shopify store, looks up the order before it answers a "where is my order" question, and learns from the replies your team already sent, so you don't have to write a Q&A library first.

On Gorgias, it can reply to customers and close tickets itself. On Freshdesk, plenty of small teams start with drafts that an agent checks and sends. Website chat goes through the chat bubble, and the handoff rules are yours to set.

eesel working with Shopify: looking up a customer's order and drafting a reply

At Question Beauty, eesel handled about 990 Gorgias tickets in a month, looked up about 290 Shopify orders along the way, and closed about 280 tickets without a person. Refunds, complaints and chargebacks go to the team with a note attached.

It costs more than MooseDesk. eesel's pricing starts with 100 free credits to try everything, then $299 a month for 500 credits, where one ticket or chat is 1 credit however long it runs. Seats are unlimited, and tickets the agent stays out of, like spam, don't use credits. If MooseDesk's ticket caps are what brought you here, connect your helpdesk and see real drafts on your own tickets first.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does MooseDesk cost per month?
MooseDesk has four plans: Free at $0, Starter at $19 a month, Growth at $49 a month and Business at $249 a month. Every plan includes unlimited AI chatbot replies, and the fee is added to your Shopify bill every 30 days in USD. My MooseDesk review covers what you get for that money beyond the price list.
Is MooseDesk free?
Yes. The Free plan costs nothing and includes unlimited AI chatbot replies, 1 team member, 100 products for AI training, Messenger and Instagram, and unlimited FAQs. It has no email channel and no ticket allowance. If you want to compare free options, my list of Shopify chatbot apps includes other free plans.
Does MooseDesk pricing include AI replies?
Yes. MooseDesk pricing includes unlimited AI chatbot replies on all four plans, so a busy month does not raise your bill. You pay for seats, products the AI learns, email inboxes and ticket volume instead. That is different from per-resolution billing, which I explain in my post on deflection vs resolution.
What happens if I go over MooseDesk's ticket limit?
MooseDesk's pricing page lists 300 tickets a month on Growth and 2,000 on Business, but it does not say what happens past those numbers. I would ask support before you rely on it in a busy season. A spam filter upstream can keep junk from using up the allowance.
Does MooseDesk offer annual pricing or a free trial?
MooseDesk shows monthly prices only, with no annual discount on its pricing page or Shopify listing. Every paid plan has a 7-day free trial, and you can cancel from your Shopify admin with access running to the end of the billing period. My Chatty pricing post covers a Shopify app that does offer yearly billing.
Is MooseDesk cheaper than Gorgias?
For a small store, yes. MooseDesk's Business plan is $249 a month for 2,000 tickets and unlimited seats, and its lower plans start at $0. Gorgias is a full helpdesk with its own AI pricing, which my Gorgias AI Agent pricing post breaks down.
Which MooseDesk plan do I need?
Count three things: products in your catalog, people who answer chats, and email tickets a month. Over 500 products or any email ticket volume puts you on Growth at $49, and more than 300 tickets or 10 people puts you on Business at $249. The calculator in this MooseDesk pricing guide does the math, and my AI support cost guide helps with the wider budget.
Can I use eesel with MooseDesk?
No. eesel does not integrate with MooseDesk. eesel is an AI helpdesk teammate for stores whose support runs in a helpdesk such as Zendesk. It works the tickets there, reads your Shopify orders and catalog, and also covers Gorgias and Freshdesk.
