What Chatty is and how it bills
Chatty is a Shopify app that bundles live chat, an AI chatbot (it calls it an AI sales agent), a shared inbox for chat, email, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp, and an FAQ help center. It has been on the Shopify App Store since June 9, 2022, holds the Built for Shopify badge, and shows a 4.9 rating from 1,882 reviews on its App Store listing as I write this.
I've spent two years in SEO, and "Chatty pricing" is one of those searches where the keyword hides the real question. Almost nobody typing it wants the plan names. They want to know whether the $19.99 plan will actually be enough for their store, or whether they'll get a $90 bill in December. At eesel we've spent the last couple of years putting AI on live Shopify support queues, and that second worry is the right one to have. One DTC supplements brand we spoke with on Gorgias and Shopify was getting about 7,000 tickets a month from roughly 30,000 orders, a 25-30% ticket-to-order ratio, and it was busiest from November to May. Usage-based plans look very different at that kind of volume.

Billing runs through Shopify. Chatty's pricing FAQ says charges show up on your regular Shopify invoice, recurring and usage charges are billed every 30 days in USD, and paid plans start with a 7-day free trial. Prices are quoted "per store", so if you run two Shopify stores, you pay for two plans.
Chatty pricing plans compared
Here is every plan with its limits, pulled from Chatty's pricing page and the pricing section of its Shopify listing. Yearly prices are the listing's annual totals divided by 12.

| Free trial | Free forever | 7 days | 7 days | 7 days |
There's also a custom Enterprise plan for larger stores, which is quote-only through a contact form on the pricing page.
One small mismatch is worth knowing about. Chatty's own site lists Plus as "Unlimited" products for AI training, while the Shopify listing says Plus can "Train AI with up to 20,000 products". If your catalog is above 20,000 SKUs, ask Chatty support which number applies before you install.

The Shopify listing is also where the feature split between plans is clearest. Basic adds AI order tracking, the multi-channel inbox and translation. Pro is the first plan with the "Pro AI model - smarter & higher accuracy", the AI shopping assistant, proactive messages, abandoned cart recovery and AI replies on social channels. Plus adds unlimited members and an AI analytics consultant.
What counts as an AI conversation?
This is the unit your whole bill hangs on, so it's worth reading Chatty's definition closely. Its pricing FAQ says an AI conversation is a complete interaction between a customer and the AI, "from first message to resolution", counted once when it ends. Only conversations where the AI actually replies count. Welcome messages and system messages don't, and neither does any chat your team picks up and answers manually.
That is a friendlier unit than it might look. You aren't paying per message, so a long back-and-forth about sizing costs the same as a one-line "where's my order?". You also aren't paying per resolution, so the bill doesn't rise just because the AI gets better at closing chats. If those two billing models are new to you, my post on deflection vs resolution walks through why the difference matters.

There's a second meter that most pricing summaries skip: translated conversations. Free includes none, Basic 50, Pro 300 and Plus 700 a month, and each extra is $0.04. At four cents it won't break anyone, but if you sell into Germany and France at once, it's one more line on the invoice. My guide to multilingual ecommerce support covers how other tools handle languages.
The definition also has a practical edge. Because any chat the AI replies to counts, junk traffic the AI engages with uses your allowance too. When eesel ran a real-traffic trial for a German jewelry ecommerce brand on Zendesk and Shopify, about 22% of its inbox turned out to be spam. Chat widgets get less spam than email, but it's worth watching your first month of usage to see how much of it is real customers, and to test the AI agent on real traffic early.

When does Basic stop being the cheap plan?
Chatty's overage rate is the same $0.40 on Basic, Pro and Plus, so the cheapest plan is simply wherever the included allowance plus extras costs least. Doing that math for every volume gives you two switch points.
- Basic to Pro at about 223 AI conversations. Basic at 223 chats is $19.99 plus 123 extras at $0.40, which is $69.19, already more than Pro's $68.99.
- Pro to Plus at about 825 AI conversations. Pro at 826 chats is $68.99 plus 326 extras, or $199.39, just past Plus at $199.
- Above 1,000, Plus plus overages is the only path. At 2,000 AI conversations, Plus costs $199 plus 1,000 extras, so $599 a month.

To its credit, Chatty points this out itself. Its pricing page has a calculator that recommends a plan from your chat volume, catalog size and team, and it flags when "Basic looks cheaper but isn't". I'd use it, and I'd only add one thing it leaves out: the translated conversation meter.

The effective cost per included AI conversation is also worth a look: about $0.20 on Basic, $0.14 on Pro and $0.20 on Plus. Pro is the best value per conversation if you actually use most of its 500. Plus is less about cheaper chats and more about unlimited seats, catalog size and the analytics consultant.
Work out your own Chatty bill
Here's a calculator for your own numbers. It checks all four limits that decide your plan (AI conversations, products, seats and translated chats), prices each plan with overages, and picks the cheapest one that fits. Prices come from Chatty's pricing page as of October 2026.
Type in your store's monthly AI chats, catalog size, seats and translated chats to see what each Chatty plan would bill and which one fits.
The calculator makes one thing visible that the plan cards hide: the limit that decides your plan is often not the AI conversation count.
The four limits that pick your plan
When I ran store profiles through the numbers, chat volume was the deciding limit less often than I expected. Four separate caps can each force an upgrade, and you land on whichever plan clears all four.

- Catalog size. Basic trains the AI on 1,500 products. A store with 2,000 SKUs is on Pro from day one, even if it only gets 60 AI chats a month. That's the one I'd check first, since the AI can only recommend what it was trained on. My post on AI for product questions explains why catalog coverage matters so much for answer quality.
- Team seats. 1, 5, 10 or unlimited. An 11-person team is on Plus regardless of volume.
- AI conversations. The obvious one, with the switch points above.
- Translated chats. The cheapest to overrun, at $0.04 each, but Free has none at all.
There are softer gates too. Chat history is 90 days on Free and 12 months on Basic, which matters if you want to look back at last year's holiday questions. And the Pro AI model, the shopping assistant and proactive messages all start at Pro, so if selling through chat is the reason you're installing Chatty, Basic isn't really the starting plan.
Hidden costs and gotchas
None of these are hidden in the sense of being buried. Chatty's pricing page is clearer than most, and it says there are no hidden fees. They're just easy to miss when you only look at the plan cards.
- Free stops, it doesn't bill. At 50 AI conversations the AI goes quiet for the rest of the cycle and your team takes over. That's safe for your wallet, but plan for it if you rely on self-service after hours.
- Overages arrive with the Shopify invoice. Usage is billed every 30 days alongside the plan. Chatty lets you set a spending limit in the app, and I'd set one on day one.
- Peak season changes the math. If December triples your chats, a store that sits on Basic most of the year can pay more that month than it would on Pro. With a WISMO-heavy queue, November and December are when it bites.
- Per store, not per account. Each Shopify store needs its own plan, which adds up fast for multi-store setups.
- Yearly saves 14-15%, but only on the base. Overages and translation fees are usage charges on top.
- Other apps still cost extra. Chatty works with Klaviyo, Shopify Flow, Zendesk and others per its listing, but those tools bill separately. If you keep Chatty next to a helpdesk, you're paying for two.
What real stores pay: three worked examples
Here are three store sizes run through Chatty's published prices. Volumes are illustrative, so swap in your own using the calculator above.
| Small store | Growing store | Busy store | |
|---|---|---|---|
| AI conversations / month | 40 | 300 | 2,500 |
| Products | 150 | 2,000 | 12,000 |
| Team members | 1 | 3 | 12 |
| Translated chats / month | 0 | 120 | 900 |
| Plan that fits | Free | Pro | Plus |
| AI overage | $0 | $0 | 1,500 x $0.40 = $600 |
| Translation overage | $0 | $0 | 200 x $0.04 = $8 |
| Monthly bill | $0 | $68.99 | $807 |
| On yearly billing | $0 | $58.99 | $777.99 |
The small store is a one-person shop with a short catalog. Free covers it, and the moment it passes 50 AI chats, Basic at $19.99 covers it up to 100. For a store this size, Chatty is a very easy recommendation.
The growing store is the interesting one. On chat volume alone, Basic would bill $99.99 plus $2.80 in translation extras, so Pro wins anyway. But the 2,000-product catalog had already ruled Basic out. The catalog, not the chats, picked the plan.
The busy store pays about $0.32 per AI conversation, because 60% of its chats are overage at $0.40. A store like this should also ask Chatty about Enterprise pricing, since the published plans stop at 1,000 included conversations. Whether $807 is a good deal depends on what each chat saves or sells, which my chatbot ROI guide works through.

Is Chatty worth the price?
For most small and mid-size Shopify stores whose questions come in through the storefront chat, I think yes. The free plan is real, the paid plans are cheap next to most Shopify live chat apps, the billable unit is fair, and human chats never cost anything. The 4.9 rating from 1,882 reviews mostly praises the setup help and support team, which matters when you're the one installing it on a Sunday night.
Where I'd slow down is if your support doesn't really live in chat. Chatty is its own inbox and helpdesk. If your team already works out of Gorgias or Zendesk, and most of your volume is email, social DMs and returns, the AI on your chat widget only sees part of the queue. You'd also be paying for two inboxes. That's the point where it's worth comparing Chatty with tools built to work inside the helpdesk, like the ones in my roundup of the best AI helpdesks for Shopify.
If you're still choosing between chat apps, the Tidio pricing breakdown and my notes on Shopify Inbox are the two comparisons I'd read next. Both sit in the same price band as Chatty, so they're the fairest comparison.
Where eesel fits for Shopify stores
eesel is an AI teammate platform, and for a Shopify store the teammate you'd hire is the AI helpdesk teammate. It connects to your Shopify store and reads your catalog, policies and orders. Then it joins the helpdesk you already run, such as Gorgias, Zendesk or Freshdesk, and answers, tags, triages or drafts there. It can also go on your storefront as a chat widget with a single code snippet. You set it up in plain language: what to do with refunds, which topics to answer directly, when to hand off to a person.
I'll be straight about price. eesel is not the cheaper chat meter. Its pricing is a fixed monthly plan where one ticket or chat is one credit however long it runs: 500 credits for $299, 1,000 for $499, 2,500 for $999, with a free plan of 100 credits to test it. Overage is $0.80 a credit with a cap you set. Next to Chatty's $68.99 for 500 AI conversations, that's a big gap for a store that only needs chat.
Where eesel earns its price is the work Chatty's widget doesn't see. Rúngne, a Norwegian climbing apparel brand on Gorgias and Shopify, runs three eesel agents: one tags every ticket, one leaves draft replies after checking orders and warehouse stock in Shopify, and one answers plain questions like shipping and stock itself. Across about 2,100 Gorgias tickets in a month, that came to about 880 tags, 580 drafts and 440 public replies. STIL Classics, a planner brand, has eesel look up about 230 Shopify orders a month before drafting each Gorgias reply.
So the honest split looks like this:
| Your situation | Better fit |
|---|---|
| Most questions come through storefront chat, under ~1,000 AI chats a month | Chatty |
| You want one cheap app for chat, FAQ page and a small inbox | Chatty |
| Your tickets live in Gorgias, Zendesk or Freshdesk, mostly email and social | eesel |
| You need tagging, triage and drafts for your team, not just a bot | eesel |
| Your team spends hours on order lookups inside tickets | eesel |
There's also a middle path. Some stores keep a cheap chat app on the storefront and put an AI teammate on the helpdesk queue behind it. If you go that way, my notes on AI chatbot vs live chat and my guide to setting up an AI agent covers the order of steps.
Try eesel on your Shopify store
If your Shopify support has grown past the chat widget, eesel is the teammate I'd test next. Connect Shopify and your helpdesk, and it learns your orders, catalog and past tickets, then shows you how it would have answered before any customer sees a reply. Question Beauty uses it on Gorgias to reply to about 960 customers a month, checking each order in Shopify first and handing refunds and complaints to a person with a note attached.
The free plan comes with 100 credits, which is enough to run it on a real week of your queue next to Chatty and compare.
