What is Willdesk?
Willdesk (listed on Shopify as "Willdesk: Live Chat&AI Chatbot") is a customer support app for Shopify stores. It started life as an FAQ app, which is why its Shopify address is still apps.shopify.com/self-faq, and it launched on the App Store on February 22, 2021. The developer is Channelwill, now trading as CWILL, the same company behind ParcelPanel and Loloyal.

How Willdesk works
Willdesk installs from the App Store and adds a chat widget to your storefront. Everything that comes in, from the widget, connected email inboxes, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp, lands as a ticket in one inbox, with a side panel that pulls the customer's Shopify orders, products and coupons.

On top of the inbox sit three layers of automation, and it helps to keep them apart because they are priced differently:
- Rules and the workflow bot (Basic and up). Keyword autoresponders, routing, tagging, cart recovery messages and product recommendations you build without code.
- AI Assistance. Inside a ticket, an agent can click AI Reply for a draft, AI Optimize to polish it, or AI Translate on the way in and out. Each use counts against the AI quota.
- AI Agent. With "message automatic takeover" switched on, the AI answers customers on its own across live chat, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and email.
What the AI agent reads
Per Willdesk's AI auto-reply guide, the agent answers from five sources: the FAQ articles you publish in Willdesk, your store's products, your Shopify Terms and Policies, public websites synced by URL (on some plans), and answers it extracts from your historical conversations, which you review and add before it uses them. The listing says the AI runs on GPT-4.
That last source is more than most small Shopify chat apps offer. The MooseDesk AI, for comparison, only reads Q&A pairs, its own FAQs and products. Willdesk still keeps a person in the loop: extracted answers go to a review list, and you can fix a bad reply from inside a ticket with "Add answers to AI training", which saves it to the knowledge base.
Product knowledge has a ceiling. Plans with 1,000 conversations or fewer can enable up to 1,000 products, and bigger plans get as many products as conversations, per the product limits doc.
What happens with an order question
Willdesk's AI Action templates cover four order jobs: tracking, editing a shipping address, cancelling an order and starting a return. For tracking, the AI gives the live status. For the other three, the action templates doc says the AI guides the customer and transfers the request to your team, adding an AI note and a "Required Human Assistance" flag. So it collects and routes the change; a person still makes it in Shopify.

Once a person replies in a conversation, the AI stops answering it. To hand the chat back, an agent clicks "AI agent takes over", per the takeover doc. That is a sensible default, and worth knowing before you let agents jump into AI chats to "help".
What Willdesk does well
Willdesk's strengths are mostly the helpdesk basics, done cheaply, with a support team that merchants keep naming in reviews.
Unlimited seats and every channel from the start
Every plan, including Free, has unlimited agent seats, live chat, email, a contact form, macros, quick responses and an unlimited help center. That alone sets it apart from seat-priced helpdesks: a five-person team pays the same as a solo founder. Messenger and Instagram are in the inbox too, and WhatsApp is a paid add-on rather than a separate product. If your customers are split across Instagram, Messenger and email, one inbox for under $20 a month is a fair deal.
Order tracking without another app
The storefront widget includes order tracking powered by the TrackingMore API by default, so shoppers can check their parcel themselves. Free includes 20 tracked orders a month and Basic 100. If you already run ParcelPanel or another tracking app, Willdesk uses that instead and does not count against your quota. "Where is my order" is the biggest single ticket type for most stores, so a self-serve widget is a real time-saver; my guide to WISMO automation goes deeper on that ticket type.

Multi-store, multi-language
Basic covers 3 stores and Pro covers multiple, all in one inbox, which suits brands that run a separate Shopify store per region. AI translation works both ways, and the AI agent switches language to match the customer. The app itself is available in 21 languages, per its listing. For more on that setup, see my guides to multi-brand customer support and multilingual ecommerce support.
"This is a great app. I use it to manage all my stores customer support. Easier for the team to manage different communication methods in one centralized place."
A mobile app merchants like
Willdesk has a phone app for replying on the go, with macros and mentions. Reviewers bring it up unprompted:
"Being able to manage conversations, reply to customers, and monitor support while away from the desk has been incredibly helpful for our operations team."

Support that gets named in reviews
Of the 30 newest reviews I read, 17 thank the support team, often a named rep. Willdesk answers almost every review, including the angry ones, which tells you how much it cares about that score.
Where Willdesk falls short
None of these are deal-breakers for a small store. They are the things I would check before moving a busy inbox over.
The AI is a second bill, sized to your whole quota
This is the part most readers miss. Willdesk's AI pricing doc says AI costs "$0.20 per conversation quota after AI activation", and the AI quota rises automatically with your conversation quota. The Shopify listing spells it out per plan: $20 per 100 AI conversations on Basic, $200 per 1,000 on Pro.
So the AI is priced on the size of your plan, not on how many chats it answers. On Basic with 100 conversations, the month goes from $16.90 to $36.90 with AI on. On Pro with 1,000 conversations, it goes from $89.90 to $289.90, more than three times the plan price.

Every workspace gets 10 free one-time AI uses, and each AI action, a draft, an Optimize click or a translation, uses one. When the quota runs out, AI features switch off. One reviewer found this late:
"AI is mentioned everywhere in the app store page but you need to pay extra fees which are not disclosed on the app store page, so you might not find this out until after you have invested time evaluating the product."
To be fair to Willdesk, that review is from June 2025, and the listing now shows the AI rate in each plan's overage line. It is still easy to miss next to a $16.90 headline.
The Shopify panel shows less than Shopify does
The same reviewer, on Willdesk for about two months, found that the order panel shows only a few products from an order, no variants such as size or color, and no shipping type or shipping price, so agents click back to Shopify for those. For a fashion store where "wrong size" is a daily ticket, test that panel with your own orders first.

Team permissions are basic
A merchant about a year in listed three gaps: staff cannot add or edit macros, notes are short and limited by characters, and there was no way to export conversations. Willdesk replied that the macro permission is by design. If several agents share macros and leave order notes all day, that is worth asking about. My guide to AI canned responses covers other ways to keep replies consistent.
Automation needs testing
One store in Spain reported an automated reply going to a customer after it had turned off the chatbot and AI agent; Willdesk said it passed the case to its product team. A single report is not a pattern, but it is a reason to run any AI or bot through test chats before launch, which is good practice with every tool. My checklist for testing an AI agent works here too.
Most reviews are written in week one

Of the 30 newest reviews, 17 were left in the first 30 days, 8 have no text at all, and only 2 mention the AI. The 4.7 tells you setup is easy and support is quick. It tells you much less about how the AI performs at month six, and the longer-tenure reviews are where the billing and permission complaints show up. One long-term user did like the bot:
"Great customer service from the staff, very efficient app, AI bot is also very good once trained. Highly Recommend"
"Once trained" is the honest part. Plan time for it.
Willdesk pricing
Willdesk prices by conversations per month, and a conversation only counts once an agent (human or AI) has answered it, per the pricing FAQ. Seats are unlimited on every plan. Here is the full ladder from willdesk.com/price, checked October 21, 2026.

| Plan | Conversations / month | Monthly | Yearly, first year | With AI on (monthly) | Stores | Tracked orders | Overage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | 20 | $0 | $0 | Not available | 1 | 20 | None |
| Basic | 100 | $16.90 | $141.96 | $36.90 | 3 | 100 | $12 per 100 conversations |
| Basic | 300 | $29.90 | $251.16 | $89.90 | 3 | 100 | $12 per 100 |
| Basic | 500 | $42.90 | $360.36 | $142.90 | 3 | 100 | $12 per 100 |
| Pro | 1,000 | $89.90 | $755.16 | $289.90 | Multiple | 1,000 | $10 per 100 |
| Pro | 2,000 | $149.90 | $1,259.16 | $549.90 | Multiple | 1,000 | $10 per 100 |
| Pro | 5,000 | $329.90 | $2,771.16 | $1,329.90 | Multiple | 1,000 | $10 per 100 |
| Pro | 10,000 | $629.90 | $5,291.16 | $2,629.90 | Multiple | 1,000 | $10 per 100 |
Pro also has 3,000 ($209.90) and 4,000 ($269.90) steps. The "With AI on" column is my math from the $0.20 rate. A few more lines that change the bill:
- Tracked orders past the included amount are $4 per 100, and you can raise the monthly allowance on the pricing slider.
- WhatsApp is a paid add-on on Basic and Pro, listed at $10.00 per 100, and is not on Free.
- Annual is 30% off, and the page says the discount is "for the first year".
- Trial: the App Store shows a 7-day free trial on Basic and Pro, but the pricing page FAQ says there is no trial on paid plans. Expect the Free plan to be your trial.
- Support level: daily on Free, 24/7 on Basic, VIP priority and a customer success manager on Pro.
One merchant reported extra monthly charges while on an annual plan; Willdesk says it resolved the case. Read your Shopify app invoice in the first month either way. My guide to deflection vs resolution rate explains why "per conversation" and "per resolution" bills behave so differently.

Willdesk pros and cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Unlimited agent seats on every plan | AI costs $0.20 per conversation of quota, on top of the plan |
| Live chat, email, Messenger and Instagram on Free | Free stops at 20 conversations a month |
| Order tracking widget built in, via TrackingMore | AI hands address changes, cancels and returns to a person |
| AI can suggest answers from your past chats, after review | Order panel misses variants and shipping details, per one reviewer |
| Multi-store from Basic, AI translation both ways | Staff cannot edit macros; notes are short |
| Mobile app that reviewers like | Trial information conflicts between listing and pricing page |
| Support team named in more than half of new reviews | Most reviews are from the first month of use |
Willdesk or eesel: which one fits?
There is no eesel integration for Willdesk, so this is a choice between two approaches, not a pairing. Willdesk is the helpdesk, the chat widget and the AI in one Shopify app. eesel is an AI teammate for support: it plugs into the helpdesk you already run, like Gorgias, Zendesk or Freshdesk, connects to Shopify for orders and products, and learns from your help center, docs and past tickets from day one.
The biggest difference is billing. Willdesk charges for AI on every conversation in your quota. eesel is one fixed monthly plan: free to try with 100 credits, then $299 a month for 500 credits or $499 for 1,000, where one ticket or chat is 1 credit however long it runs, with no per-seat fee. On pure price for a small store, Willdesk wins and I'd say so to anyone: Basic with AI at $36.90 is far below eesel's entry plan. eesel earns its price when the AI has to do the work rather than route it.
Question Beauty, a cosmetics brand on Gorgias, is a good example. In a month eesel handled 990 tickets across Messenger, email and chat, sent 960 replies itself in the customer's language, and looked up 290 Shopify orders before answering delivery questions. ClutchLoop runs eesel on Gorgias and its website chat, where it checks live prices, colors and stock in Shopify, 76 lookups in a month, and sends return requests to its returns portal without a person on the ticket.
So: if you get a few hundred chats a month and want every channel in one cheap inbox, Willdesk is the better buy. If you already work in Gorgias or Zendesk, your best answers live in old tickets, and you want the AI to look things up and reply on its own, the AI helpdesk teammate is the one I would test. For a storefront chat, eesel's chat bubble goes on a Shopify site with one script tag, and it also answers on WhatsApp.
Willdesk alternatives
If Willdesk is not the right fit, the shortlist depends on why. For another Shopify app with an AI chat, my MooseDesk review covers one with unlimited AI replies on every plan, and the SmartBot review covers one priced by catalog size. The Chatway review and Chatty review cover two more chat-first options with usage-based AI.
If you need a deeper chatbot builder, start with my Tidio review. For email ticketing at volume, the Gorgias alternatives list and my Re:amaze review cover Shopify-first helpdesks, and for a free option from Shopify itself, read my take on Shopify Inbox.
If you already run Zendesk or Freshdesk, see the guides to Zendesk with Shopify and Freshdesk with Shopify. My roundup of Shopify chatbot apps has the wider field, and if returns are your biggest ticket type, my list of the best AI for returns is worth a look.
Verdict: 3.5 out of 5 for small Shopify teams
Willdesk earns 3.5 out of 5. As a helpdesk, it gives a small Shopify store a lot for very little: unlimited seats, every major channel in one inbox, a help center, an order tracking widget, multi-store support from $16.90, and a support team merchants keep thanking by name. The AI reads more than most apps at this price, including suggested answers from your own past chats.
It loses points on the AI bill and on depth. Turning AI on adds $0.20 for every conversation in your quota, which more than doubles Basic and more than triples Pro, and for order changes the AI routes to a person rather than acting. The Shopify panel and team permissions are thinner than a busy team will want. For a solo founder or a small team that mostly needs one inbox and a few automations, install the Free plan and grow into Basic. For a team that wants the AI to carry real volume, price the AI separately before you commit, and compare it with a tool billed per ticket.
Try eesel with your Shopify store
If Willdesk's AI pricing gave you pause, eesel turns it around: you pay per ticket or chat it works on, not per conversation in a quota, and it reads your Shopify orders, help center and past replies inside the helpdesk you already use. Question Beauty's agent answers Messenger, email and chat in Gorgias in the customer's own language and checks the order before it replies. Try eesel free with 100 credits and run it on last month's real questions before a shopper sees it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Willdesk free?
Yes. The Free plan is $0 with 20 conversations a month, 1 store, unlimited agent seats, live chat, email, a contact form, macros and an unlimited help center. AI auto-replies need a paid plan. If 20 conversations is too tight, compare it with other Shopify live chat apps.
How much does Willdesk cost?
Willdesk costs $0 on Free, $16.90 to $42.90 a month on Basic (100 to 500 conversations) and $89.90 to $629.90 on Pro (1,000 to 10,000 conversations), per Willdesk's pricing page. Annual billing takes 30% off the first year. My chatbot cost guide puts those numbers in context.
How much does the Willdesk AI cost?
The AI is an add-on at $0.20 per conversation in your plan's quota, per Willdesk's help center, and every workspace gets 10 free one-time AI uses. On Basic with 100 conversations that adds $20, so the month goes from $16.90 to $36.90. For a fuller look at Willdesk pricing next to rivals, see my guide to AI helpdesks for Shopify.
What does the Willdesk AI learn from?
Published help center articles, your Shopify products, your Shopify policies, public web pages you sync by URL on some plans, and answers it suggests from your past conversations for you to review. If your best answers sit in old replies, my guide to training AI on past tickets explains how to use them.
Does Willdesk support WhatsApp?
Yes, on paid plans. WhatsApp is a paid add-on on Basic and Pro, listed at $10.00 per 100 on the pricing table, and is not included on Free. The AI agent can answer on WhatsApp too. My list of the best AI for WhatsApp covers other options.
Is Willdesk a good Gorgias alternative?
For a small Shopify store that wants chat, email, social and a help center for under $45 a month, yes. Gorgias goes deeper on rules, order actions and reporting at higher volume. My Gorgias review and Gorgias pricing guide cover that side.
Does eesel integrate with Willdesk?
No, eesel does not connect to Willdesk. eesel works with Shopify directly and inside helpdesks like Gorgias, Zendesk and Freshdesk, or on your site through its chat bubble. If you want one cheap app for your store, Willdesk is simpler; if you want AI that learns from past tickets, see the AI helpdesk teammate.
