Why do Shopify stores look for VanChat alternatives?
Credit first, because VanChat earns it. VanChat learns your products, pages and policies on install, recommends products in the chat, pops up offers at six points in the shopping journey and tracks orders. Its reviews are unusually mature for a young app, and I scored it 4 out of 5 in my VanChat review. If your chat is mostly pre-sale questions, it's a strong tool.

The reasons people shop around are specific, and I checked each against the VanChat pricing page today.
1. The meter is per AI reply. Starter is $39 for 500 AI replies a month, Pro $149 for 2,500, Growth $249 for 5,000, Scale $499 for 12,000 and Business $799 for 20,000. Every plan charges $0.09 for each extra reply, and a reply is each AI message, so a shopper who asks five questions uses five.
2. The helpdesk hooks sit on Growth. Human handoff, live chat and Shopify Inbox are on every paid plan, but Gorgias, Klaviyo and removing the VanChat branding start at $249 a month.
3. Order help stops at tracking. VanChat shows order status and carrier details. An address change or a return still means a handover to a person.
4. It doesn't work your inbox. Email, Instagram DMs and returns that land in a helpdesk are outside what a storefront chat touches.
5. Watch the intro price. Until October 31, VanChat takes 30% off the first three months, which puts Starter at $27.30. Compare tools at the full price you'll pay in month four.
None of these says VanChat is bad at its job. They say your support may have grown past the chat bubble, and that's a different shopping list. My VanChat pricing breakdown goes deeper on the meter.
How I picked these alternatives
I'm Kurnia. I write code for eesel and I've spent two years on SEO, which mostly means reading what buyers actually type and what search engines hand back. So for this post I started where a store owner would: I asked ChatGPT, in a fresh chat, "I run a Shopify store and use VanChat as the AI chat assistant on my site. What other AI chat or support tools should I look at instead?"
It shortlisted Gorgias, Tidio, Re:amaze, Richpanel, Rep AI and Shopify Inbox, and it split them by job: sell more products, automate support, recover abandoned carts, or run a shared inbox. Its advice was to test catalog accuracy (current prices, stock, variants), order support, handoff with context and total cost at your real chat volume, and to be careful with AI resolution claims and introductory prices. That's the shortlist and the test I use here. Among the pages it read were eesel's guides to the best AI live chat apps for Shopify and the best AI for ecommerce support, which cover more tools if you want the wider field.
I added eesel as the seventh pick for one reason I hear on sales calls. A DTC supplements brand on Gorgias and Shopify, running about 7,000 tickets and 30,000 orders a month, came to eesel's team wanting AI to resolve at least half its email: order tracking, subscription changes and basic product questions. None of that volume starts in a storefront chat.
Every price below comes from the vendor's own pricing page or Shopify listing, checked on 22 October 2026.
Three jobs a Shopify chat tool can do
This is the one idea I'd hold onto while you compare. VanChat is built for the first job below. The alternatives spread across all three, and a few cover two.

- Sell in the chat. Product discovery, proactive offers, abandoned cart rescue. VanChat, Rep AI and Shopify Inbox live here. If this is your job and VanChat does it well, a switch should buy you something specific.
- Support in the chat. Order status, returns and simple policy answers inside the widget. Tidio's Lyro and Rep AI's Support skills sit here, and VanChat covers tracking.
- Work the helpdesk queue. The email, Instagram DMs and return requests that pile up in Gorgias or Zendesk. That's where WISMO automation pays off most, and it's where Gorgias, Re:amaze, Richpanel and eesel work.
Which column hurts most is the whole decision. A store with a busy chat and a quiet inbox needs a different tool from a store whose chat is fine and whose inbox is on fire.

Is cost a good reason to leave VanChat?
Usually not, and this is the part that surprised me. "Reduce VanChat costs" was one of the follow-up options ChatGPT offered, so I ran the numbers. Every tool counts something different, which is why sticker prices don't compare.

Here's one store, priced on each vendor's list price: 20,000 site visits and 1,000 shopper chats a month, about three AI replies per chat, and 500 chats the AI closes without a person. The seat-based tools assume two agents.
| Tool | What you'd pay a month | How I got there | Covers email and DMs? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shopify Inbox | $0 | Free | No |
| VanChat | About $194 | Pro $149 plus 500 extra replies at $0.09 | No |
| Rep AI | $263 | Concierge (Sales plus Support) at the 25,000-visit tier | Email, social and WhatsApp are a beta add-on |
| Richpanel | About $398 | 2 seats at $99 plus the $200 AI minimum (annual rates) | Yes |
| Re:amaze | About $475 | Basic, 2 users at $29, plus 490 extra resolutions at $0.85 | Yes |
| eesel | $499 | 1,000 credits, one per chat it works | Works in your helpdesk |
| Gorgias | About $793 | Basic with AI Agent $90, 700 extra tickets at $40 per 100, 470 extra AI resolutions at $0.90 | Yes |
| Tidio | Calculator | The Shopify listing shows Lyro at $39 for up to 200 conversations; larger tiers are on its pricing calculator | Light inbox |
So at this size, VanChat is near the cheap end for chat. The tools that cost more mostly cost more because they're also your helpdesk, with seats, email and social included. If your goal is a lower bill on the same chat job, Shopify Inbox is the honest answer. If your goal is to cover work VanChat never touched, compare the helpdesk options against your current helpdesk bill plus VanChat, not against VanChat alone. My guide to chatbot cost explains how each billing unit grows, and deflection vs resolution rate explains why "resolved" means different things.

Tap a goal. Prices are each vendor's own list price on 22 October 2026.
Drop-off detection, proactive product approach, upsells and abandoned cart rescue, with Support skills bundled on its Concierge plan.
If its proactive offers and product picks convert, the selling job is already covered. Fix the gap next to it instead.
Address edits, exchanges, store credit, cancellations and returns, each with its own permission. Refunds wait for approval.
A full Shopify helpdesk whose AI cancels orders and applies discounts from the Basic plan up.
Email, chat, social, SMS and voice in one inbox, with an AI Agent and FAQ center included. Good for teams of two to five.
The default Shopify helpdesk, with an AI Agent on every plan billed per resolution.
An AI sales associate that learns your catalog and policies. Order lookups need the buyer to sign in, and it can't change orders.
Live chat, a light inbox and the Lyro AI agent from one vendor, with prices you can read today.
An AI helpdesk teammate in Gorgias, Zendesk or Freshdesk that checks the Shopify order, replies or drafts, and hands money questions to a person. It can sit next to VanChat.
VanChat's Gorgias and Klaviyo integrations start on its $249 Growth plan. Its 30% intro discount runs until October 31.
1. Gorgias
Best for: stores that want one helpdesk for every channel, with an AI that changes orders inside it.

Gorgias is the default Shopify helpdesk, with 4.3 from 706 reviews on its Shopify listing. ChatGPT called it the best overall pick for Shopify-focused support. Its listing says it manages "email, live chat, social, SMS and voice in a unified inbox with order and customer history", and its AI Shopping Assistant also answers product questions and recommends products, so it covers some of VanChat's selling job too.
What it does better than VanChat
- The AI works every channel, not just the chat. Email, Instagram DMs and SMS land in the same inbox as chat, so a handoff keeps the full order history.
- It changes orders. The pricing page lists actions such as cancel, discount and apply on Basic and up.
- You approve the skills. The screenshot above shows the AI drafting skills that wait for your review before they go live.
Where it falls short
- Two meters: a resolved chat is a helpdesk ticket and an automated interaction.
- Starter has no actions or brand voice controls, so order changes start at the $90 Basic plan.
- Proactive selling isn't the core pitch the way it is for VanChat or Rep AI.
A store owner on Reddit put the trade-off well:
"If a meaningful chunk is WISMO, address changes, cancels, refunds, exchanges, Gorgias usually feels worth it because the agent can do the work inside the ticket with Shopify context right there."
Pricing

| Plan | Helpdesk (monthly) | Tickets included | With AI Agent (monthly) | AI resolutions included | Extra AI resolution |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $10 | 50 | $40 | 30 | $1.00 |
| Basic | $60 | 300 | $90 | 30 | $0.90 |
| Pro | $360 | 2,000 | $550 | 190 | $0.90 |
| Advanced | $900 | 5,000 | $1,430 | 530 | $0.85 |
Prices are from the Gorgias pricing page; annual billing lowers Basic with AI Agent to $77 a month. My Gorgias AI Agent pricing post covers the AI side.
My take: Pick Gorgias if your support has outgrown chat and you want order changes, returns and every channel in one place. Skip it if all you need is a better storefront salesperson, where VanChat is cheaper. My Gorgias review and Gorgias alternatives cover the rest.
2. Tidio
Best for: small stores that want live chat, an AI agent and a light inbox on a small budget.

Tidio is the most-reviewed tool here, with 4.8 from 1,355 reviews on its Shopify listing. ChatGPT picked it for smaller stores that want easy setup. Its AI agent, Lyro, answers questions from your content, recommends products like the size comparison above and hands off to live chat. Tidio's pricing page says its customers "average a 75% resolution rate with Lyro", which is the vendor's own figure.
What it does better than VanChat
- A real free plan with an inbox. Live chat, ticketing, a mobile app and social integrations are free, with email, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger in one place.
- Lyro can work outside Tidio. Its "Lyro AI Agent only" option adds the AI to Zendesk, Salesforce or another helpdesk.
- Native Shopify actions on the Lyro plan, plus Lyro Actions and MCPs.
Where it falls short
- The helpdesk, the chatbot builder and Lyro are priced separately, so the total depends on three sliders.
- Proactive selling is built with Flows, a no-code builder, rather than learned automatically.
- Larger Lyro volumes need the pricing calculator or a sales call.
"Setup was honestly faster than LiveChat. I had the chat widget running and a basic bot handling FAQs within like an hour."
Pricing

| Plan | Monthly | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 50 billable conversations, 50 one-time Lyro conversations, 100 Flows visitors |
| Starter | $29 ($24.17 billed yearly) | 100 billable conversations |
| Growth | From $49.17 billed yearly | From 250 billable conversations |
| Plus | From $300 plus usage | Custom volumes, dedicated success manager |
| Lyro AI Chatbot (Shopify listing) | $39 | Up to 200 Lyro conversations, native Shopify actions |
Prices are from the Tidio pricing page and its Shopify listing. My Tidio AI pricing post explains the steps.
My take: Pick Tidio if you're a small store that wants VanChat-style chat plus a basic inbox and a price you can read today. Skip it if proactive selling is the reason you installed VanChat. My Tidio review and Gorgias vs Tidio comparison go deeper.
3. Re:amaze
Best for: small support teams that want one affordable inbox for every channel, with AI on top.

Re:amaze is a GoDaddy-owned helpdesk with 4.4 from 181 reviews on its Shopify listing. ChatGPT called it the balanced pick: shared inbox, chat, FAQ and multiple channels for small teams. The listing says agents can "manage, modify, and create Shopify orders directly in customer support and chats", and the Re:amaze AI page adds suggested replies, translation, summaries and training the AI on your common questions.
What it does better than VanChat
- Every channel in one inbox. Email, chat, social, SMS and voice, with an FAQ center and status page in the same tool.
- Order work happens in the conversation. Your team can edit or create Shopify orders without leaving the chat.
- Built-in proactive messages. Cues (proactive messages) are on every plan and its chatbots include an Order Bot, so you keep some of VanChat's nudge-style selling.
Where it falls short
- Per-seat pricing, and the AI Agent includes only 5 to 20 resolutions per user a month before $0.85 each.
- The AI is knowledge-led; order changes are done by your agents, not by the AI on its own.
- It doesn't learn your catalog for product discovery the way VanChat or Rep AI do.
"Re:amaze seems like it's constantly getting new features without raising the modest prices. Our small team has just two seats and most small companies can probably get by with just a single seat."
Pricing

| Plan | Per user, monthly | Billed yearly | AI Agent resolutions included | Extra resolution |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $29 | $26.10 | 5 per user | $0.85 |
| Pro | $49 | $44.10 | 10 per user | $0.85 |
| Plus | $69 | $62.10 | 20 per user | $0.85 |
| Starter (Shopify listing) | $59 flat | n/a | Basic features, unlimited users, 500 responded conversations | $15 per 100 conversations |
Prices are from the Re:amaze pricing page. My Re:amaze pricing post covers the add-ons.
My take: Pick Re:amaze if you have two to five people answering email, chat and DMs and you want a full inbox for less than Gorgias. Skip it if you want the AI itself to sell or change orders. My Re:amaze review and Re:amaze AI alternatives cover the field.
4. Richpanel
Best for: brands whose tickets are mostly "change my order", who want the AI to do it cheaply.

Richpanel is an AI-first Shopify helpdesk with 4.9 from 137 reviews on its Shopify listing. ChatGPT picked it for cutting repetitive post-purchase tickets. Its AI agents page is short and specific: "It acts." Tracking, address edits, exchanges, store credit, subscription skips and pauses, cancellations and returns run against Shopify, Recharge, Loop and Skio.
What it does better than VanChat
- The AI changes orders. VanChat tracks them; Richpanel's AI edits, swaps and cancels them.
- A permission per action. Its AI agents page says "Lookups run on their own. A refund waits for approval."
- It tests on your tickets first. Richpanel says a model runs on your own recent tickets before any customer sees a reply.
Where it falls short
- Seat pricing on top of the AI meter, with a $200 monthly minimum on the AI.
- It's a helpdesk migration, so you'd move off Gorgias or Zendesk.
- It isn't built for storefront selling, which is VanChat's strength.
"I love the efficiency through automation and AI that Richpanel provides. The improved organization and analytics for the team compared to our previous platform is a big plus."
Pricing

| Plan | Per user, monthly (Shopify listing) | Per user, billed yearly (pricing page) | AI conversations | Notable inclusions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pro | $89 | $69 ($828 a year) | From $0.20 each | Self-service portal, automations |
| Pro Max | $119 | $99 ($1,188 a year) | From $0.20 each | Multiple brands, advanced analytics, more channels |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Custom | For teams of 50+ agents |
The AI agents page quotes $99 per human seat on the annual rate alongside the $0.20 AI rate and the $200 minimum, so confirm the seat price on your quote. There's a 14-day free trial. My Richpanel pricing post covers the contract terms.
My take: Pick Richpanel if your chat is fine but your queue is full of order changes, and you want the lowest AI cost per resolution on this list. Skip it if product discovery is the job. See Richpanel alternatives for the wider field.
5. Rep AI
Best for: larger stores that want a more aggressive AI salesperson, with support skills bundled in.

Rep AI is the closest like-for-like swap on this list. ChatGPT picked it as the sales-focused option for product discovery and conversion, and it holds 4.6 from 122 reviews on its Shopify listing. Its pitch is "one AI brain" for sales and support, with drop-off detection, a proactive product approach, upsells and abandoned cart rescue on the sales side.
What it does better than VanChat
- Order changes in the chat. Its Support skills list order status, returns and exchanges, cancel or modify order, AI email answering and subscription edits.
- Behavior-led prompts. Drop-off detection approaches shoppers who look about to leave, rather than firing on page events alone.
- A guarantee in writing. The pricing page promises a 5x ROI guarantee and a 14-day free trial on all plans.
Where it falls short
- Priced by site visits, so a traffic spike raises the bill even if chats don't grow. Extra visitors are $12 per 1,000 on the Shopify plans.
- Email, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and WhatsApp are a beta add-on at $0.75 per AI-resolved conversation.
- Customization add-ons such as Flow Studio cost $200 each unless you're on Concierge.
"Some of the extras are expensive. It takes a good month to get everything up and running."
Pricing

| Monthly site visits | Sales (monthly) | Support (monthly) | Concierge, Sales plus Support (monthly) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10,000 | $104 | $49 | $130 |
| 25,000 | $209 | $79 | $263 |
| 50,000 | $368 | $149 | $462 |
| 80,000 | $578 | $250 | $726 |
| 500,000+ | Custom | Custom | Custom |
Prices are from the Rep AI pricing page, with 20% off yearly. The Shopify listing also has a free-to-install plan with 100 visitors a month and up to 100 products.
My take: Pick Rep AI if you like what VanChat does and want more of it, plus order changes in the chat, and your traffic is predictable. Skip it if you have heavy traffic but few chats, since you pay by visits. My Shopify chatbot apps list has more sales-first options.
6. Shopify Inbox
Best for: stores that want a free AI chat baseline before paying for anything.

Shopify Inbox is Shopify's own chat app, free, with 4.6 from 5,806 reviews. It now puts "an AI-powered sales associate on your storefront" that learns your catalog, policies and store content. ChatGPT called it the free baseline, with native messaging and AI-assisted replies.
What it does better than VanChat
- It's free. No reply meter, no overage, no plan to outgrow.
- Shop sign-in context. When buyers sign in with Shop, the agent can personalize replies using preferences and purchase history from across Shopify.
- Built by Shopify. Catalog, inventory and policies connect with no setup, and VanChat already hands chats into it on every plan.
Where it falls short
- Order lookups only work for signed-in customers, per Shopify's Inbox docs. The agent can't refund, edit or cancel orders; its one action is adding a product to the cart.
- It only works in your store's chat widget. Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp and SMS aren't channels.
- Staff-facing suggested replies are English only.
Pricing
| Plan | Price | What's included |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify Inbox | Free | AI sales associate, live chat, Track my order instant answer, mobile apps, analytics |
My take: Install Shopify Inbox first if cost is your reason to leave VanChat; it does the basic selling job for free. Move to a paid tool when you need proactive offers, order changes or channels beyond the widget. My Shopify live chat apps roundup compares the next step up.
7. eesel
Best for: stores whose chat is fine but whose Gorgias, Zendesk or Freshdesk queue is where the hours go.
eesel is an AI helpdesk teammate. It joins your Shopify store and the helpdesk you already use, such as Gorgias, Zendesk or Freshdesk, and works the queue like a new hire: it reads your products, policies and past tickets, checks the order before it answers, and passes anything about money to a person. On the storefront, the chat bubble answers from the same knowledge.
What it does better than VanChat
- It works the tickets VanChat hands off. Question Beauty lets eesel reply directly in Gorgias across Messenger, email and chat: about 990 tickets in a month, 280 closed without a person.
- It checks Shopify before writing. STIL Classics, a planner brand on Gorgias, has eesel leave about 430 draft replies as internal notes after looking up about 230 Shopify orders, so a person checks and sends.
- It fits the helpdesk you have. Cape Coffee Beans runs it on Zendesk, Shopify and Google Drive, where it sweeps the queue every morning and answers the team inside tickets with the product page or past ticket it used.
- You can test it on history first. eesel runs on your past tickets and shows what it would have said before a customer sees anything.
Where it falls short
- It isn't a proactive storefront salesperson. VanChat's offers and product picks are a real strength, and eesel doesn't replace them.
- In the customer setups above, refunds, returns and complaints go to a person with a note. If you want the AI to issue refunds itself, Richpanel or Gorgias go further.
- A credit is spent on every ticket or chat it works, including ones it hands off.
Pricing
| Plan | Monthly | Credits | Extra credits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 100 to try | n/a |
| Teammate | $299 | 500 | $0.80 each, with a cap you set |
| Teammate | $499 | 1,000 | $0.80 each |
| Teammate | $849 | 2,000 | $0.80 each |
| Teammate | $1,749 | 5,000 | $0.80 each |
A ticket or a chat is 1 credit however long it runs, with unlimited agents and seats and EU or US data residency, per the eesel pricing page.
My take: Pick eesel if VanChat sells fine but email, DMs and order questions are piling up in your helpdesk. It can sit next to VanChat rather than replace it. My guide to the best AI helpdesk for Shopify compares it with the other helpdesk-side tools.
How to test a VanChat alternative on your own chats
Every vendor here will show you a great demo, and three of them quote resolution rates on their own pages. The number worth trusting is what a tool does on your conversations.

- Export 100 recent VanChat conversations. Mix product questions, order tracking, returns, discount requests and the odd ones.
- Run every tool on the same set. Richpanel tests on recent tickets, Rep AI has a simulator, and eesel simulates on your history.
- Score six things. Right product, right price and stock (the catalog accuracy ChatGPT warned about), order answered, handoff with context, sales lift and cost at your volume.
- Check sales lift your own way. VanChat's ROI figures count any sale after a chat, as its own FAQ admits, and most tools here count the same way. Compare conversion for four weeks before and after, as in my chatbot ROI guide.
- Start in shadow mode. Let the AI draft or look things up before it touches anything you can't undo. My guide to the shadow review step covers how, and switching AI support vendors covers the cutover.
If you sell into the EU, add one more check. A German store asked VanChat in its reviews about EU data hosting, and I found no public answer. My notes on the EU AI Act cover the disclosure side for every tool here.
Try eesel on the queue behind your chat
VanChat is a good salesperson for your storefront, and if that's where your customers ask, keep it. If the hours are going into the Gorgias, Zendesk or Freshdesk queue it hands off to, eesel is the AI helpdesk teammate I'd point you to: it checks the Shopify order, replies or drafts in your helpdesk, and hands refunds to your team with the context already written.

That's what Question Beauty runs on Gorgias and Shopify, checking Shopify before every order answer and handing refunds and complaints to a person. Run it on your past tickets first and see what it would have said. You get 100 credits free, no card needed. Try eesel on your own Shopify tickets.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the best VanChat alternatives for a Shopify store?
Rep AI and Shopify Inbox are the closest matches if you want the chat to sell. Tidio is the budget all-rounder, Gorgias, Re:amaze and Richpanel are helpdesks with AI built in, and eesel is an AI teammate for the helpdesk you already use. My VanChat review covers what you would be replacing.
Is there a free alternative to VanChat?
Yes. Shopify Inbox is free and now includes an AI agent that recommends products from your catalog, and Tidio has a free plan with live chat and 50 one-time Lyro AI conversations. Neither changes orders for the customer. My guide to Shopify Inbox covers the limits.
Which VanChat alternative is cheapest at high chat volume?
It depends on the billing unit. VanChat charges per AI reply, Rep AI per site visit, Tidio per Lyro conversation and Gorgias per ticket plus each AI resolution. In my worked example of 1,000 chats a month, VanChat Pro came to about $194, cheaper than most helpdesk options. My VanChat pricing post has the overage maths.
Which VanChat alternatives can change Shopify orders?
Gorgias (actions from its Basic plan), Richpanel and Rep AI's Support skills list cancellations, address changes and returns. Re:amaze lets your agents manage Shopify orders inside the inbox. VanChat and Shopify Inbox track orders but hand changes to a person. My post on whether AI can handle refunds and returns covers the guardrails.
Does VanChat work with Gorgias or Zendesk?
VanChat hands chats to Gorgias, but its pricing table puts the Gorgias integration on Growth at $249 a month and above, and its feature page also names Zendesk. It hands chats over; it doesn't answer the tickets already in the helpdesk. My guide to AI for Gorgias compares tools that do.
Should I replace VanChat or add a tool next to it?
If VanChat sells well in your chat and the pain is email, DMs and returns, add a helpdesk-side tool rather than replacing it. Replace it when the chat itself is the problem, for example the per-reply bill or missing order actions. My list of Shopify support AI covers both sides.
How do I test a VanChat alternative before switching?
Run each tool on the same 100 past chats and score whether it picked the right product, quoted the right price and stock, answered order questions, handed off with context and what it would cost at your volume. My guide to testing an AI agent has a full checklist.
