8 best Chatway alternatives for online stores in 2026

Why do store owners look for Chatway alternatives?
Chatway is a good product for its price. The WordPress plugin has 30,000+ active installs and a 5.0 rating from 770 reviews, and the Shopify app sits at 4.9 from 287 reviews. It is built by Premio, installs on Shopify, WooCommerce, Wix and a dozen other store builders, and puts website chat, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and email in one inbox on paid plans. My Chatway review goes through the features in detail.

Store owners on Capterra like how fast it is to set up and how much the free plan gives you to start:
"I receive an email and a push notification from the app when someone chats with me. Customers report a very intuitive experience as well. I love the free plan to ensure the product will work for us in the long run. It has a very generous free plan."
The reasons people leave are mostly about how the plans are built. Here is the current price list from Chatway's pricing page:
| Plan | Monthly | Billed yearly | Seats | Conversations a month | History |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 1 | 50 | 30 days |
| Business | $39 | $31 | 2 | 200 | Unlimited |
| Plus | $199 | $159 | 10 | 1,000 | Unlimited |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Custom | Custom | Unlimited |
| Extra seat | $19 | $16 | +1 | No extra conversations | |
| AI Support Agent | $0.50 per resolved conversation | 10 free AI conversations |
That table produces four reasons to look elsewhere:
- At the cap, replies stop. Chatway's page is plain about it: once you reach your limit, "you won't be able to respond to new conversations manually or through APIs." The cap counts chats your team answers, plus anything handled through the API, MCP or webhooks. You can wait for the next cycle, or reset, which "charges you for your current plan again" and starts a new billing cycle. My Chatway pricing post has the reset math.
- The jump between plans is steep. Business to Plus is $39 to $199 a month. A store that outgrows 200 chats has no step in between, apart from resets.
- Two seats on Business. One for the owner and one for a teammate. A third person costs $19 a month but adds no conversations.
- Some reviewers want more depth. The common Capterra theme is that Chatway does the basics well and runs out of room on customization and automation.

The chart uses the one-in-four ratio from that supplements brand. Your store's ratio will differ, so check last month's chat count against last month's orders before you decide anything.
"One thing I liked least about Chatway is that some customization options are a bit limited compared to more advanced chat platforms. It would be great to have more control over the widget design and additional automation features."
One correction worth making, because AI answers repeat it: when I asked ChatGPT for Chatway alternatives on October 21, 2026, it said Chatway's free plan has unlimited conversations and paid plans start at $24. Chatway's own page says 50 conversations on Free and $31 a month billed yearly for Business.
What should you check before switching?
A new chat tool is easy to install and annoying to undo, so I'd test five things on your real store first:
- What happens on your busiest day. Does the tool pause, charge overage, or not care? This is the gap Chatway leaves, so make sure the replacement closes it.
- Order lookups. Can the agent, human or AI, see the shopper's order and tracking without leaving the chat? Chatway's Business plan syncs Shopify and WooCommerce orders, so do not downgrade here by accident.
- Channels. If customers reach you on WhatsApp, Instagram or Messenger through Chatway today, check the new tool connects the same channels on the plan you are buying.
- Mobile and notifications. Answer a test chat from your phone. Missed-chat emails matter more than any feature list for a two-person store.
- History. Chatway's Free plan keeps 30 days of chats. Export anything you need before you switch.
My guide to live chat features covers what else is worth checking.
The 8 alternatives at a glance
Prices are the lowest paid plan on each vendor's own pricing page on October 21, 2026, using annual billing where the vendor offers it. "Not listed" means I did not find it on the vendor pages I read.
| Tool | Best for | Free plan | Paid from | Billed by | Busy month | AI answers | Seats on first paid plan | Shopify | WooCommerce | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chatway (today) | Simple chat on a tight budget | 1 seat, 50 chats | Business $31/mo | Plan with chat cap | Replies stop at cap | $0.50 per resolved chat | 2 | Yes, order sync | Yes, order sync | Business and up |
| Tidio | Chat plus AI in one tool | 50 conversations | Starter $24.17/mo | Conversation tiers | Pick a bigger tier | Lyro from $32.50/mo | 10 | Actions on Growth | Plugin | Yes |
| tawk.to | Free human chat | Unlimited agents | Add-ons $29/mo | Free plus add-ons | No chat cap | AI Assist from $29/mo | Unlimited | One-click install | WordPress install | Not listed |
| Crisp | Flat price for a small team | 2 seats | Mini $45/mo | Workspace | Flat price | Hugo credits from Mini | 4 | Order sync | Order sync | Yes |
| Shopify Inbox | Shopify stores | Free app | Free | Free | Free | Inbox agent included | Your Shopify staff | Native | No | Not listed |
| Gorgias | Order-aware support | No, trial | Starter $10/mo | Tickets | Overage per ticket | AI Agent per resolution | Not per agent | Native | Listed | Not listed on pricing |
| LiveChat (Text) | Polished chat, sales teams | 14-day trial | Essential $19/user/mo | Per user | Per user, no chat cap | 10 AI resolutions | 1 user | Live catalog | Plugin | AI Agent answers |
| Zoho SalesIQ | Chat plus visitor tracking | 3 operators, 100 chats | Basic $7/operator/mo | Per operator | Unlimited on Professional | Zia Agents | 1 | Not listed | Not listed | Basic and up |
| eesel | AI answers with handoff | 100 credits to try | $299/mo for 500 credits | Credits (1 chat = 1) | Overage $0.80, cap you set | Yes, the core job | Unlimited | Integration | Integration | Yes |
Chatway is the only row where a busy month switches replies off. Every other tool either ignores chat volume, prices it per seat, or bills the extra and keeps answering.
Which Chatway alternative fits your store?
Pick your store platform and the main job you need done. The answer comes from the same vendor pricing pages as the table above.
Shopify Inbox, free, built by Shopify, with your staff answering in the Inbox app.
Backup: tawk.to, free with unlimited agents and a one-click Shopify install.
Shopify Inbox agent first, since it is free and reads your catalog and policies.
If you need it to act on orders or work beyond the storefront: Tidio Lyro (from $32.50/mo, Shopify actions on Growth) or eesel on top of your helpdesk.
Gorgias, built around Shopify orders, from $10/mo for 50 tickets (Basic $60/mo for 300).
Add eesel if you want AI drafts or replies inside that Gorgias inbox.
tawk.to, free with unlimited agents and a WordPress install.
Backup: Zoho SalesIQ Free, 3 operators and 100 chats a month.
Tidio, chat and Lyro AI in one WordPress plugin.
Or eesel's chat bubble, one script tag, answers from your pages and WooCommerce data.
Crisp, syncs WooCommerce orders, flat $45/mo for 4 seats on Mini.
Bigger team: Essentials at $95/mo for 10 seats.
tawk.to, free, with one-click installs for Wix and 50+ site builders.
Backup: Zoho SalesIQ Free if you want visitor tracking too.
eesel chat bubble, one script tag on any site, from 100 free credits.
Or LiveChat Essential at $19/user/mo with 10 AI resolutions a month.
Crisp for one shared inbox across chat, email and social.
Already on a helpdesk? Keep it and add eesel to answer inside it.
If none of these fits, my roundup of live chat software for ecommerce goes wider.
What does a busy month cost with each tool?
The sticker price matters less than the billing unit. The unit decides what happens when a sale or a shipping delay doubles your chats.

Here is a worked example: a store with 3 people answering chat and 600 chats in a month, using each vendor's published prices.
| Tool | Plan that fits | What you pay that month | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chatway | Plus, billed yearly | $159 | Business caps at 200; two resets would charge $39 three times |
| tawk.to | Free | $0 | $29/mo if you want the "Powered by tawk.to" badge gone |
| Shopify Inbox | Free | $0 | Shopify stores only |
| Crisp | Mini | $45 | 4 seats included, flat per workspace |
| LiveChat (Text) | Essential, 3 users | $57 | $19 per user, billed yearly |
| Zoho SalesIQ | Basic, 3 operators | $21 | 1,000 operator chats a month on Basic |
| Gorgias | Basic (300 tickets) | $60 plus overage | Its help center example bills $0.40 per extra ticket on this plan |
| eesel | 500 credits plus overage | $299 plus $0.80 per extra credit | Covers AI answers, not a human chat inbox |
For pure human chat, Chatway is the expensive option once you pass 200 chats. The picture changes when AI does the answering, which is where Tidio, Gorgias and eesel earn their price. For Tidio I left the row out: its price moves with a conversation slider, and I did not want to guess a tier.
1. Tidio: chat, inbox and AI in one plugin
Best for: small stores that want live chat and an AI agent from one vendor, with room for 10 seats on the entry plan.

Tidio is the closest like-for-like replacement for Chatway: website chat, a shared inbox, Flows automations, and Lyro, an AI agent you can buy as an add-on or on its own. Against Chatway it gives you more seats for the money (10 on Starter versus 2 on Business) and a more mature AI product. It still bills by conversation, so it does not remove volume pricing, it just counts differently: only conversations where a human replies are "billable", and Lyro and Flows replies do not count toward that number.
What it does well
- Ten seats on Free, Starter and Growth, so a growing team does not pay per head.
- Lyro answers from your site and help content; Tidio says customers average a 75% resolution rate with it.
- Native Shopify actions on Growth and up, and a WhatsApp integration in the plan table.
"And to my knowledge, it's actual AI. It scraped my site and can answer questions based on the knowledge it got from my site."
Where it falls short
- Two meters to watch: billable conversations for your team and Lyro conversations for the AI.
- Shopify actions start on Growth, not Starter.
- Lyro's free allowance on the Free plan is 50 conversations one time, not monthly.
Pricing

| Plan | Per month (billed yearly) | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 50 billable conversations, 50 Lyro conversations (one time), 100 Flows visitors |
| Starter | $24.17 | 100 billable conversations, 10 seats |
| Growth | From $49.17 | From 250 billable conversations, Shopify actions |
| Lyro AI Agent | From $32.50 | From 50 Lyro conversations a month |
| Plus | From $300 + usage | Custom seats and volume |
More detail in my Tidio pricing breakdown and Tidio AI pricing post.
Verdict: Pick Tidio if you want one tool for chat and AI and your team is more than two people. Skip it if the reason you are leaving Chatway is per-conversation pricing, because Tidio still has it. My Tidio alternatives list covers the next step.
2. tawk.to: the free human chat
Best for: stores where people answer every chat and the budget is zero.

tawk.to is the answer if Chatway's cap is your only problem. Live chat, ticketing and a knowledge base are free for life, with unlimited agents and no monthly conversation limit. It installs with one click on Shopify, WordPress, Wix and 50+ other builders. You pay only for extras: removing the "Powered by tawk.to" badge, AI Assist, or hired agents who answer chats for you.
What it does well
- No chat cap and no seat limit, which removes both of Chatway's pricing levers at once.
- AI Assist has a forever-free tier for limited volume, then paid plans from $29 a month.
- Hired chat agents for $1 an hour if you want people covering the night shift.
"I'm giving Tawk 4 stars because they provide a great service for free. There are definitely more 'polished' options out there, but they all come with a monthly fee now."
Where it falls short
- The tawk.to badge stays on your widget unless you pay $29 a month.
- I did not find store order lookups on tawk.to's pricing or add-ons pages, so Chatway's Shopify and WooCommerce order panel may not have a direct match.
- The interface is functional rather than polished, as the review above says.
Pricing
| Item | Price | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Live chat, tickets, knowledge base | $0 | Unlimited agents, free for life |
| AI Assist | Free tier, then from $29/mo | AI answers from your knowledge base, hands off to a person |
| Whitelabel | $29/mo | Removes the tawk.to badge |
| Voice Agents | From $49/mo + usage | AI phone agent |
| Hired agents | $1/hour | tawk.to staff answer chats for you |
Prices from the tawk.to add-ons page.
Verdict: Pick tawk.to if your team answers chats itself and you want the cap gone for $0. Skip it if you rely on Chatway's order panel or want a polished AI agent out of the box. The FAQ below covers what you trade for free.
3. Crisp: a flat price for a shared inbox
Best for: small teams that want one inbox for chat, email and social at a flat monthly price.

Crisp prices per workspace, not per conversation or per agent. That is the main reason it works as a Chatway alternative: $45 a month on Mini gets 4 seats, against Chatway's 2 seats for $39. Crisp syncs Shopify, WooCommerce, Adobe and PrestaShop data into conversations, connects WhatsApp Business, Instagram, SMS and more, and includes Hugo AI credits on every paid plan.
What it does well
- Flat workspace pricing that does not move when chat volume does.
- Store data sync for Shopify and WooCommerce, which keeps the order context Chatway users are used to.
- AI credits included: Crisp says $5 of credits on Mini covers around 90 automated conversations.
Where it falls short
- The free plan has 2 seats and no AI credits.
- Included AI credits are small on Mini; heavy AI use means buying more.
- The ticketing system is listed as a Plus feature, so a small team on Mini gets an inbox rather than tickets.
Pricing

| Plan | Per month, per workspace | Seats | Included AI credits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 2 | None |
| Mini | $45 | 4 | $5 (about 90 automated conversations) |
| Essentials | $95 | 10 | $25 (about 450) |
| Plus | $295 | 20+ ($10 per extra agent) | $75 (about 1,350) |
My Crisp pricing post and Crisp AI review go deeper.
Verdict: Pick Crisp if you have 3 to 10 people and want a predictable bill with store data in the inbox. Skip it if you mostly want AI to answer for you, since the included credits are modest. See Crisp alternatives if it is close but not right.
4. Shopify Inbox: free chat built into Shopify
Best for: Shopify stores that want free chat and a basic AI agent without another vendor.

Shopify Inbox is Shopify's own chat app, and it is free. Your staff can answer chats from the desktop or mobile app and send product links, discount codes and images. You can also turn on an Inbox agent that answers questions about products, shipping, returns, sizing and store policies, using your catalog, policies and Knowledge Base files. If a shopper signs in with Shop, the agent can use their purchase history from across Shopify.
What it does well
- Free, with nothing to connect: catalog, inventory and policies come in automatically.
- An AI agent you can opt into, with tone, style and rules you control.
- Built-in analytics on orders assisted and buyer satisfaction.
Where it falls short
- Shopify only. If you also sell on another platform, you need a second tool.
- No WhatsApp, Instagram or Messenger inbox listed on the app page, which Chatway's paid plans include.
- It is a storefront chat, not a support helpdesk; email tickets and refunds live elsewhere.
Pricing
Free on the Shopify App Store, with a 4.6 rating from more than 5,800 reviews. The Inbox agent is included.
Verdict: Pick Shopify Inbox if you are on Shopify and Chatway's free plan felt tight. Skip it if you need social channels in one inbox or sell outside Shopify. For more Shopify-specific picks, see Shopify live chat apps.
5. Gorgias: support built around your orders
Best for: growing ecommerce stores where most questions are about orders, returns and refunds.

Gorgias is a step up from a chat widget: it is an ecommerce helpdesk that puts chat, email and social in one inbox, with Shopify order data and actions next to every ticket. It prices by ticket volume and never per agent, and when you go past your plan it charges overage per extra ticket instead of stopping replies. That is the direct fix for Chatway's cap.
What it does well
- Unlimited users on every plan; you pay for tickets, not seats.
- Order data and actions inside the ticket, built for Shopify first.
- AI Agent on every plan, billed only when it resolves a conversation without a person.
Where it falls short
- Two meters again: a fee for each ticket your team replies to, plus an automation fee when the AI fully resolves one. A fully AI-resolved ticket can count toward both.
- The Starter plan is monthly only and covers 50 tickets.
- More setup than a chat widget; it replaces your inbox rather than adding a chat bubble.
Pricing

| Plan | Helpdesk only (monthly) | Helpdesk only (yearly) | With AI Agent (yearly) | Tickets a month | Automated interactions with AI |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $10 | Monthly only | $40 (monthly only) | 50 | 30 |
| Basic | $60 | $50 | $77 | 300 | 30 |
| Pro | $360 | $300 | $471 | 2,000 | 190 |
| Advanced | $900 | $750 | $1,227 | 5,000 | 530 |
Prices come from Gorgias pricing, and the overage and automation fees from its billing help article.
For worked examples, see my Gorgias Shopify pricing post and the Gorgias AI Agent pricing breakdown.
Verdict: Pick Gorgias if order questions are most of your volume and you are ready for a real helpdesk. Skip it if you just want a chat bubble for pre-sale questions. Gorgias alternatives for Shopify covers the neighbours.
6. LiveChat (Text): polished chat for sales-minded teams
Best for: stores that treat chat as a sales channel and want a polished agent app.

LiveChat, now sold as Text by LiveChat, charges per user with no monthly chat cap. Every plan includes a live Shopify catalog, so agents can share products in the chat, and the AI Agent answers WhatsApp messages the same way it answers website chats. The trade is cost per head: a team of five on Growth is $395 a month.
What it does well
- No chat cap; a busy month costs the same as a quiet one.
- Live Shopify catalog on every plan, plus Messenger, SMS and web channels.
- AI resolutions included: 10 a month on Essential, 200 on Growth, with extra packs of 50 for sale.
"One thing I dislike about LiveChat is that some advanced features can feel a bit expensive for smaller teams."
Where it falls short
- Per-user pricing adds up quickly for a team that shares chat duty.
- Ten AI resolutions on Essential is a taste, not a deflection plan.
- No free plan, only a 14-day trial.
Pricing

| Plan | Billed yearly | Billed monthly | AI resolutions included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | $19 per user/mo | $25 per user/mo | 10 a month |
| Growth | $79 per user/mo | $99 per user/mo | 200 a month |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Custom |
My LiveChat AI review has the full picture, and Tidio vs LiveChat is the head-to-head.
Verdict: Pick LiveChat if one or two people sell through chat all day and want the best agent experience. Skip it if four or five people share chat duty, where Crisp or tawk.to cost far less.
7. Zoho SalesIQ: chat with visitor tracking
Best for: stores that want to see who is browsing and reach out first, on a low per-operator price.

Zoho SalesIQ is live chat plus visitor intelligence: a real-time list of who is on your site, where they came from and what they looked at, with lead scoring on paid plans. Against Chatway, the free plan is more generous on seats (3 operators) but tighter on chats (100 operator chat sessions a month). Paid plans are cheap per operator, and Professional removes the operator chat cap entirely.
What it does well
- Free plan with 3 operators, mobile apps and a desktop app.
- WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Telegram and more from Basic up, plus audio and video calls from the chat window.
- Zia Agents and the option to plug in other AI vendors such as Anthropic Claude or Google Gemini.
Where it falls short
- Basic still caps operator chats at 1,000 a month; unlimited starts on Professional.
- Built for sales and marketing teams first, so the store-order view Chatway gives you is not part of the pricing page.
- A lot of plan detail to read; the feature list is long.
Pricing
| Plan | Per operator/mo (billed yearly) | Operator chats a month | Chatbots |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 (3 operators) | 100 | None |
| Basic | $7 | 1,000 | 1 (25K bot sessions) |
| Professional | $12.75 | Unlimited | 5 (50K bot sessions) |
| Enterprise | $20 | Unlimited | 10 (200K bot sessions) |
Prices from the Zoho SalesIQ pricing page, which also offers a 15-day trial.
Verdict: Pick Zoho SalesIQ if you want proactive chat and visitor data on a tight budget, or you already use Zoho. Skip it if order lookups in chat are the reason you liked Chatway.
8. eesel: an AI teammate for your store's chat
Best for: stores that want shoppers answered at any hour, from their own content and order data, with clean handoff to a person.

eesel is not another chat inbox. It is an AI helpdesk teammate: you hire it, connect it to your store and helpdesk, and it starts answering. On your website it runs as a chat bubble you add with one script tag. It reads your store pages, help center, policies and past tickets, looks up orders through the Shopify integration, and when a case needs a person it hands off with the whole conversation attached. If you already run a helpdesk such as Gorgias or Zendesk, it works inside that queue too, so you do not swap inboxes to get AI.
Two published eesel customers show how this looks in a store:
- Beautek, which sells equipment to beauty and tattoo studios, answered 77 website chats live in German in a month and created 20 Zendesk tickets from chat for sales leads and questions that needed a person. It answers from about 6,700 pages and documents.
- Question Beauty, a direct-to-consumer cosmetics brand, handled 990 Gorgias tickets in a month across Messenger, email and chat, sent 960 replies, and looked up 290 Shopify orders before answering delivery and order questions.
What it does well
- Answers from your own content and order data, in 80+ languages, at any hour.
- Credits, not caps: one chat is one credit however long it runs, and overage is $0.80 per credit with a monthly limit you set, so the bubble never goes silent on a busy day.
- Unlimited agents and seats on every plan, and you can test it on past conversations before shoppers see it.
Where it falls short
- It is the AI layer, not a human chat app. If your team wants to answer every chat live, pair it with a helpdesk or keep a tool like tawk.to.
- No phone calls.
- $299 a month is more than a two-seat chat tool. It pays off when AI handles enough chats to save real hours.
Pricing
| Plan | Per month | Credits | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 100 to try | Every feature and integration, no card |
| Teammate | $299 | 500 | Unlimited agents and seats |
| Teammate | $499 | 1,000 | Sizes up to 5,000 credits for $1,749 |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | SSO, HIPAA with a signed BAA, dedicated contact |
Prices from eesel pricing. A ticket or a chat is 1 credit.
Verdict: Pick eesel if after-hours and repeat questions are what you want off your plate, and you want AI that knows your orders. Skip it if you only need a free chat box your team answers by hand. My guide to AI live chat explains how the handoff works.
How do you switch off Chatway without losing chats?
Switching chat tools takes an afternoon if you do it in the right order.

- Run both widgets for a week. Put the new tool on one page or behind a test flag, answer real chats in it, and keep Chatway live elsewhere.
- Reconnect your channels. WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger connections belong to one inbox at a time, so plan the cutover for a quiet hour. My WhatsApp chatbot guide covers the WhatsApp side.
- Save the history you need. Free plan chats only go back 30 days, so export or copy anything about open orders first.
- Set offline and after-hours replies. The new tool should say something useful when nobody is online, or hand the chat to an AI agent.
- Remove the Chatway plugin. Deactivate it in WordPress or uninstall the Shopify app so two widgets never load on the same page.
The slow-widget complaint from Capterra is worth remembering here too:
"What I liked least about Chatway was that it can sometimes be slow to load, especially during busy periods. The delays occasionally affect the flow of communication and response time when handling customer inquiries."
Whatever you pick, load it on your real store, on a phone, during a busy hour, before you switch.
Which Chatway alternative should you pick?
Here is how I'd decide, by the reason you are leaving:
- The cap is the problem and your team answers every chat: tawk.to, free and uncapped. Zoho SalesIQ Professional if you want visitor tracking.
- You are on Shopify and want free: Shopify Inbox, with its AI agent switched on.
- You need more than two seats at a flat price: Crisp Mini at $45 for 4 seats.
- Orders, returns and refunds are most of your chats: Gorgias, which bills extra tickets instead of pausing.
- You want chat and AI from one vendor: Tidio, as long as conversation pricing does not bother you.
- One or two people sell through chat all day: LiveChat.
- You want shoppers answered at night without growing the team: eesel, on its own or on top of your helpdesk.
If you are weighing the wider field, my roundups of live chat alternatives and AI chatbots for ecommerce cover more tools. I also compared 3CX Live Chat alternatives for WordPress sites.
Try eesel on your store's chat
If you are leaving Chatway because replies stop on your busiest days, eesel fixes that from the other end: an AI teammate that answers shoppers from your product pages, policies and order data, and a credit plan that keeps answering when a sale doubles your chats. It plugs into Shopify, WooCommerce, Gorgias and Zendesk, so you keep your inbox and add the answers. Question Beauty uses it to check Shopify orders before replying; Beautek uses it to answer website chats in German and pass sales leads to the team.
You can start with 100 free credits, test it against your past chats, and only put it in front of shoppers when the answers look right. Try eesel.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best free alternative to Chatway?
For free human chat, tawk.to is the strongest Chatway alternative: chat is free with unlimited agents and no monthly conversation cap, and you only pay for add-ons like AI Assist or branding removal. On Shopify, Shopify Inbox is free and includes an AI agent. My tawk.to alternatives guide covers what free chat trades away.
Why do people switch from Chatway?
The usual reason is the monthly conversation cap: 50 on Free, 200 on Business and 1,000 on Plus. When a store hits it, the widget stays up but the team cannot reply until the next cycle or a reset, and each reset charges the plan price again. My Chatway pricing breakdown walks through the math.
Which Chatway alternative is best for Shopify stores?
Start with Shopify Inbox, which is free and answers from your catalog and policies. If you need a real support inbox with order actions, Gorgias is built around Shopify and starts at $10 a month for 50 tickets. See my Shopify chatbot apps roundup for more options.
Which Chatway alternative works best with WooCommerce?
Crisp syncs WooCommerce data into its inbox and charges a flat $45 a month for 4 seats on Mini. tawk.to installs on WordPress for free. If you want AI answers on a WooCommerce store, my WooCommerce AI guide covers the setups that work.
Is there a Chatway alternative without a conversation limit?
Yes. tawk.to chat is free without a conversation cap, Zoho SalesIQ Professional includes unlimited operator chat sessions at $12.75 per operator a month billed yearly, and LiveChat charges per user rather than per chat. Gorgias and eesel let you keep answering past your plan and charge for the extra volume instead of pausing replies.
How much does a Chatway alternative cost for a small store?
For a 3-person team, human chat runs from $0 (tawk.to, Shopify Inbox) to $45 a month (Crisp Mini) or $57 (LiveChat Essential at $19 per user, billed yearly). AI answers are usually extra. My LiveChat pricing and Crisp pricing posts have the detail.
Can an AI agent replace live chat on my store?
For the repeat questions, often yes: shipping times, returns, sizing and order status. Keep a person for refunds and edge cases. eesel's chat bubble answers from your store content and hands off with the chat attached, the way Beautek answers website chats in German and turns the rest into Zendesk tickets.
