What is Smartsupp?
Smartsupp is a live chat tool built in Brno, Czechia, by Smartsupp.com, s.r.o. Its about page says it started in 2013 to build "a live chat that could be used by anyone and everyone," with simplicity and fair pricing as the goal, and the homepage now claims 100,000+ customers. Most of its reviewers are small European online stores: 844 of 1,081 G2 reviews come from Europe, and 1,034 from businesses with 50 or fewer employees, per G2's filters.

Think of it as two products sharing one dashboard. The first is the live chat and inbox your team works in, with rule-based chatbot "Flows" and an AI writing helper for agents. The second is Mira AI, an AI agent that answers shoppers on its own. You buy them separately, and they're priced in completely different ways. It sits in the same aisle as Tidio, Crisp and Chatra.

How Smartsupp works
Smartsupp has three layers: the live chat and inbox where people answer, the automations that run without AI, and Mira AI. Most of the praise in reviews is about the first layer. Most of the questions I'd ask before buying are about the third.
The live chat and multichannel inbox
The core is a chat widget on your site and a dashboard where your operators reply. Smartsupp pulls WhatsApp, Messenger and connected email accounts into the same inbox, which is what most reviewers single out. A Polish store owner on G2 wrote that the main win is no longer switching between WhatsApp, Facebook and the website to read messages.

Around that sit the usual live chat tools: visitor info (pages viewed, where they came from), office hours, shortcuts for saved replies, chat assignment, agent groups, satisfaction ratings and mobile apps for iOS and Android. Paid plans add an AI Reply Assistant, which drafts, polishes and translates an agent's reply while the agent is online. It's a support copilot, not an autonomous bot, and it's capped per plan: 50 assists a month on Solo, 250 on Plus, 500 on Expert.
Two more pieces matter for planning. Flows (the rule-based chatbots, formerly called chatbots) start on Plus. And Plus also adds MCP and API access: Smartsupp's MCP page describes connecting Claude or ChatGPT to your account so it can search conversations and contacts, send replies, manage tags and pull statistics, but not delete conversations. That's a nice touch for a tool at this price, and it's the same idea I cover in my guide to MCP for customer support.
Mira AI, the AI shopping assistant
Mira is Smartsupp's AI agent, and it's built for stores first. Per the introduction guide, it learns from four sources: a web scrape of up to 20 pages, an XML product feed (Google or Heureka format, up to 30,000 products), up to 5 text sources of 10,000 characters each, and up to 30 custom Q&A pairs, which always win over the other sources.
The product feed is what makes Mira useful for selling. Ask for a ring under a budget and Mira replies with product cards: a photo, the name, a short description, a price badge from the feed and a button to the product page. Smartsupp's product cards guide lets you choose between no recommendations, "curated" (only when relevant) and "engaging" (actively suggests products).

Note what the card does and doesn't do. It links to the product page; there's no add-to-cart inside the chat, which some Shopify-only apps like Chizy offer. Mira also knows which page the shopper is on, so "how big is this TV?" on a product page gets a direct answer. That's the core of handling pre-purchase questions well, and the feed-driven upselling works the same way.
The persona settings are simple and sensible. Four sliders set tone of voice, talkativeness, confidence and emoji use.

Now the limits, all from Smartsupp's own docs:
- Website widget only. Mira "runs in the chat widget on your website (not yet on Messenger, WhatsApp, or email)." Those channels stay human.
- No order data. None of the four sources is your store's order system, so "where is my order?" gets your shipping policy, not a tracking number. If that's a big share of your chats, my guide to WISMO automation covers the options.
- It doesn't learn from conversations. The Mira FAQ says so directly. You fix answers with Q&A pairs, including a "Correct answer" button next to Mira's reply in the inbox. Past chats and emails your team already answered aren't a source, the gap my guide to training AI on past tickets is about.
- Stock checks are narrow. Mira reads availability from the feed and answers "is X in stock?", but not "which ones are in stock?", per its stock guide.
- Mira or Flows, not both. Smartsupp's Flows vs. Mira guide says the two "can't be active on the same website at the same time."
Language handling is automatic: Mira replies in whatever language the visitor writes in, and you can't lock it to one language. For a store selling across Europe that's mostly a plus; my notes on multilingual live chat cover what to check first.
What happens when Mira can't answer
Smartsupp is clear that Mira "will politely decline rather than make something up" when your sources don't cover a question, and then it tries a handover. You choose between never handing over and handing over "when convenient or on demand." Here's how the rest plays out, per the handover guide and the Mira FAQ.

Inside your office hours, the conversation moves to your team in the Smartsupp inbox, with the history kept, and Mira stops replying in that chat. Mira doesn't check whether anyone is actually online; it always attempts the handover and your business-hours setting decides the outcome. Outside office hours, Mira asks for the visitor's name, email and reason, says you'll reply by email, and saves the transcript.

The line I'd underline is in the FAQ: "Mira AI doesn't create tickets in third-party tools like Freshdesk or Zendesk." On handover it sends the transcript and contact details to an email address you choose. If your helpdesk takes email, that lands as a ticket by the back door, but without tags, order context or a summary. That's fine for a small team living in the Smartsupp inbox. It's a seam for a team whose day happens in a helpdesk, which is the trade-off my guides on chat handoff and chatbot escalation dig into.
Smartsupp pricing
Smartsupp prices live chat by operator seat and Mira by AI conversation. These are the vendor's prices from Smartsupp's pricing page, in USD, excluding VAT. The page opens on annual billing, so the big numbers you see first are the annual per-month prices.

| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing (per month) | Operators | Conversations | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 1 | 25 a month | Live chat, WhatsApp, Messenger, 14-day history |
| Solo | $24 | $17 | 1 | Unlimited | 3 email addresses, basic automated messages, 50 AI reply assists, 1-year history |
| Plus | $35 | $25 | 3 | Unlimited | 10 email addresses, automated Flows, MCP and API, 250 AI reply assists |
| Expert | $117 | $83 | 5, then $34 ($24 annual) per extra operator | Unlimited | 50 email addresses, 3 websites, 3-year history, premium support, 500 AI reply assists |
| Ultimate | From $280 | From $280 | Custom | Unlimited | Custom limits, dedicated account manager, wire transfer |
| Mira AI add-on | $20 per 100 AI conversations | $16 per 100 | 1 AI agent | 100 to 5,000 a month | Product recommendations, FAQs, handover, 24/7 |
Smartsupp says annual billing saves up to 30%, and paid plans have a 14-day trial with no card. The live chat side is good value for a small team: unlimited human conversations from $17 a month per operator, with no per-chat meter.
How Mira AI is billed
Mira sits on its own tab, and it's where the real budgeting happens.

Three rules shape the bill:
- One conversation is one visitor session Mira answers. Smartsupp's FAQ counts "each unique visitor session that the AI Agent responds to," and returning visitors count again.
- When the quota runs out, Mira stops. Live chat keeps working, but the AI goes quiet until the monthly reset or a top-up. Plan for your busiest month, not your average one; my holiday spike guide covers that week.
- Mira follows your main plan's billing period. On an annual plan, Mira is billed annually too, so you can't add it for a single month.
You can try it first: setup is free with 10 conversations, plus 25 more after onboarding, per the pricing page. For multiple stores or markets, "Unlimited AI Agents" (one agent per site with its own knowledge) is quote-only.

That chart is the main thing I'd want a buyer to see. From 200 AI chats a month, Mira costs more than the seat it runs next to, and at 5,000 it's $1,000 of a $1,024 bill. That's a fair way to charge for AI, since you only pay for chats Mira answers. It does mean the "from $17" headline tells you very little about a store that wants the AI to take most of its chats. The finder below adds it up for your numbers.
Where the vendor's pages disagree
Two small conflicts are worth knowing. Smartsupp's Shopify install guide says "Only monthly subscriptions are available through the Shopify app," while the Shopify App Store listing shows yearly prices ($204, $300 and $996 a year). And the pricing page offers 10 free Mira conversations plus 25 more after onboarding, while the AI FAQ describes the trial as 25 conversations after onboarding. I'd treat the pricing page as current and check the billing screen after install.
What users say in their Smartsupp reviews
The ratings are strong where Smartsupp has been around longest, and thin where it's newer.

On G2, 878 of 1,081 reviews are five-star. The most-cited strengths are ease of use (108 mentions), easy setup (68) and helpfulness (63). The WordPress plugin, listed since 2014, has 20,000+ active installations and 122 five-star ratings out of 131. Setup speed comes up again and again, like in this Trustpilot review:
"The setup took less than 10 minutes, and the live chat interface is incredibly clean and intuitive for both our team and our site visitors"
On page speed, which is the thing I check first after that eesel lesson, a PrestaShop store selling pit bikes told G2 it saw no measurable impact on page speed, and that Smartsupp's JavaScript consent API let it connect its own cookie bar to the chat. That's a good sign for a widget that loads on every page.
The critical notes
G2's own tags count "Expensive" 29 times, "Cost" 21 times and "AI Limitations" 19 times. The same pit bike store, otherwise happy, wished the price were friendlier for a new shop with low cash flow. That lines up with the Mira math above.
The weakest spot is Shopify. The Shopify listing has just 4 reviews, all from 2023, averaging 2.3. One US store's complaint was about removing the app:
"when we uninstalled it it would not uninstall off the site, code can't be found ANYWHERE"
Smartsupp replied publicly to both negative Shopify reviews, and its help center now has a dedicated article on removing the chat from a website. On Trustpilot, a July 2026 reviewer who liked the app flagged random log-outs, and Smartsupp replied that "the unexpected log-outs shouldn't be happening, and we're on it" (App glitches).
Two things to read carefully on Trustpilot. Several one-star reviews come from shoppers who met a scam website that happened to use the Smartsupp widget, not from Smartsupp customers; Smartsupp's reply explains it can't police every site that installs it. And Trustpilot notes the company has "no recent history of asking for reviews," with many recent five-star reviews only a line long. And in a 2024 reply there, Smartsupp noted that "there is no customer service in the free package" (Very bad experience), so free users rely on the help center.
What I couldn't find: any Reddit or Hacker News discussion of Smartsupp in English. Most of the community voice is on G2, Trustpilot and the WordPress directory, which fits a tool whose base is European small business.
Pros and cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Clean live chat that reviewers set up in minutes | Mira AI is a separate add-on, billed per visitor session |
| Unlimited human conversations on every paid plan from $17 a month | Mira only answers in the website widget, not WhatsApp, Messenger or email |
| WhatsApp, Messenger and email in one inbox | No order lookup; Mira answers from your site, feed and texts |
| Mira reads your product feed, shows priced product cards, speaks the shopper's language | Handover never creates a Zendesk or Freshdesk ticket, only an email |
| Flows, API and MCP access from the $25 Plus plan | Mira doesn't learn from conversations, and can't run alongside Flows |
| EU data storage, install guides for WordPress, PrestaShop, Wix and 60+ platforms | Thin Shopify presence: 2.3 from 4 reviews, all from 2023 |
Who Smartsupp fits, and who should skip it
Pick Smartsupp if you're a small or mid-size store, especially on WordPress/WooCommerce or PrestaShop, and you want people answering chats in one tidy inbox with WhatsApp and Messenger alongside. Solo at $17 a month annual for one person, or Plus at $25 for three, is fair value for unlimited conversations. If you then add Mira for a few hundred after-hours chats, you get a sensible after-hours setup for roughly $50 to $125 a month. Its closest rivals here are Tidio and the tools in my ecommerce live chat list.
Look harder if you want the AI to take most of your chat volume. At thousands of AI chats a month, Mira becomes the bulk of the bill, and an app that bundles AI conversations into the plan, like BestChat on Shopify, may cost less. To its credit, Mira's assistant list shows a 30-day summary of AI conversations, chats resolved by AI, escalations to people and products offered; my chatbot analytics guide covers what else to track.
Skip it, or pair it, if most of your support is post-purchase email, order questions and returns handled in a helpdesk. Mira hands off by email and doesn't read orders, so it won't touch the work that fills an ecommerce helpdesk queue.
My Smartsupp verdict: 3.5 out of 5
Smartsupp's live chat earns its reputation. It's quick to install, easy for a non-technical team, priced fairly per seat, and it puts website chat, WhatsApp, Messenger and email in one place, with EU data storage and an MCP connection that tools twice the price don't offer. On the live chat alone, I'd score it 4.
Mira pulls the overall score down to 3.5, and not because it's badly built. Its docs are clear, the product feed and price badges are useful, and "decline rather than make something up" is the right default. But it only works in one channel, it can't see orders, it hands off by email instead of into a helpdesk, and it's metered per visitor session on top of the seat price. Smartsupp is a strong live chat with an AI agent you should price before you switch on. Run Mira in the Playground, test it against your 20 most common questions, and check the mobile load time before you go live; my checklist for testing an AI agent before launch works for this.
How eesel compares for store support
eesel is an AI teammate you hire for a job, and for a store that job is the AI helpdesk teammate. It answers on the website through a chat bubble, and on WhatsApp, Messenger and email.
It also works inside the helpdesk where your tickets live, such as Zendesk or Freshdesk, and connects to WooCommerce or Shopify for orders and the catalog. To be clear, eesel doesn't plug into Smartsupp; it would replace Mira on the website, or sit behind it in your helpdesk.

What that looks like at real eesel customers, all European stores like Smartsupp's own base:
- BEAUTEK, a German B2B supplier to beauty and tattoo studios, runs eesel as the KI-Chat on beautek.de and on Zendesk. Between August 8 and September 8, 2026 it answered 77 website chats in German and created 20 Zendesk tickets from chat, most of them sales leads, while drafting replies on about 110 Zendesk tickets. It looks orders up from BEAUTEK's own system after an identity check. That's the step Mira's email handover skips.
- Nordbutiker, a Swedish e-bike and scooter retailer, runs one bot per brand and per country across Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. Each is trained on its own store's pages and that brand's solved Zendesk tickets, and works in the website chat bubble, in Zendesk and in the browser extension.
- Koffer.ch, a Swiss luggage shop, has eesel draft Freshdesk replies in German, French, English or Italian from its own macros, in Swiss spelling, for a small team to send.
| Smartsupp with Mira AI | eesel | |
|---|---|---|
| Main job | Live chat inbox plus an AI agent in the widget | AI teammate for website chat and the helpdesk queue |
| Where the AI answers | Website widget only | Chat bubble, WhatsApp, Messenger, email, helpdesk tickets |
| Learns from | Website pages (20), product feed, texts, 30 Q&A pairs | Store data, past tickets, macros, help center, docs |
| Order lookups | No | Shopify, WooCommerce and other connected systems |
| Handover | Smartsupp inbox, or email after hours | Tickets in your existing helpdesk |
| Testing | Playground before publishing | Simulation on past tickets before going live |
| Pricing | From $17 a month plus $16 to $20 per 100 AI conversations | Free with 100 credits, then from $299 a month for 500 credits |
On price, I'll be straight: a store that mostly needs people answering chats pays far less on Smartsupp. One operator plus 500 Mira conversations is $124 a month on monthly billing, against $299 for 500 credits on eesel's pricing, where a ticket or a chat is 1 credit. eesel earns its cost when the AI also has to work tickets, read orders and hand off into a real queue, the way it does for teams using AI for Zendesk.
Since Smartsupp's MCP connection is part of its appeal, one more note. eesel ships a command-line tool that drives the same workspace you'd use in the dashboard. Running npx @eesel/cli init chat-bubble --site https://your-store.com sets up a chat bubble from the terminal, every command prints JSON so Claude Code, Cursor or Codex can run the setup, and --dry-run shows a change before it's sent. And eesel mcp token prints what you need to connect the workspace to your own AI tools as an MCP server.
Try eesel on your store's chat and inbox
If Smartsupp's live chat suits your team but you want the AI to read orders, answer on WhatsApp and email too, and hand off into Zendesk, Freshdesk or Gorgias with the context attached, that's where eesel helps. It reads the Shopify or WooCommerce order, checks your policy, and answers or drafts inside the ticket, and you can simulate it on your past tickets before it talks to a customer. You start with 100 free credits, no card.
Try eesel free, or see how the website chat bubble works.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Smartsupp worth it? What does an honest Smartsupp review conclude?
For a small European store that wants a clean live chat and one inbox for chat, WhatsApp, Messenger and email, yes. My Smartsupp review scores it 3.5 out of 5: the live chat is easy and fairly priced per seat, held back by Mira AI being a separately metered add-on that only answers in the website widget. Compare it with other ecommerce live chat tools before you commit.
How much does Smartsupp cost?
Per Smartsupp's pricing page: Free at $0, Solo $24 a month ($17 billed annually), Plus $35 ($25), Expert $117 ($83) and Ultimate from $280. Prices exclude VAT. Mira AI is extra on every plan, so total Smartsupp pricing depends on how many AI conversations you buy. My Tidio pricing breakdown shows how a close rival meters the same thing.
How much does Smartsupp Mira AI cost?
Mira AI costs $20 per 100 conversations a month on monthly billing, or $16 per 100 on annual billing, from 100 up to 5,000 conversations. Each unique visitor session Mira answers counts as one conversation, and when the quota runs out Mira stops until it resets or you top up. My explainer on deflection vs resolution covers why the billing unit matters.
Is Smartsupp free?
Yes, the Free plan includes live chat, WhatsApp and Messenger for 1 operator with 25 conversations a month and 14 days of history. Mira AI is not included; you can add it to Free as a paid add-on. If you need a free option with more room, my Tidio alternatives list covers several.
Does Smartsupp work with Shopify and WooCommerce?
Yes. Smartsupp has a WordPress plugin with 20,000+ active installations that covers WooCommerce stores, and a Shopify app, though the Shopify listing holds a 2.3 rating from 4 reviews. Mira learns your catalog from an XML product feed rather than a live store connection. For the WooCommerce side, see my guide to the WooCommerce AI chatbot options.
Can Smartsupp hand chats to Zendesk or Freshdesk?
Not as tickets. Smartsupp's Mira FAQ says Mira doesn't create tickets in tools like Zendesk or Freshdesk; on handover it emails the transcript and the visitor's contact details to an address you choose. If your team works in a helpdesk, an AI agent for Zendesk like eesel works inside the ticket queue itself.
Does Smartsupp's AI answer on WhatsApp and Messenger?
No. Smartsupp's help center says Mira AI runs in the chat widget on your website, not yet on Messenger, WhatsApp or email. Those channels reach your human agents in the Smartsupp inbox. My guide to WhatsApp support for ecommerce covers AI options for that channel.
What are the best Smartsupp alternatives?
For a storefront chat with AI included in the plan, look at Tidio, Chatra or the apps in my Shopify AI chatbot roundup. If support also runs through email and a helpdesk, eesel answers the website chat and drafts or sends replies inside Zendesk, Freshdesk or Gorgias.
