wati-alternatives
eesel Team
Last edited October 26, 2026
The best Wati alternative for most support teams is respond.io: its Growth plan includes AI agents and broadcasts, and it passes Meta's message fees through at cost. For one test team (5 agents, 2,000 promos, 1,000 order updates and 3,000 support replies a month in the US), I got $219 a month on respond.io against $312 on Wati, mostly because Wati's rate card charges 1.6x Meta's list rate for marketing messages.
The rest depends on which of Wati's three jobs (inbox, broadcasts, AI agent) is pushing you out. Shopify stores that mostly run campaigns should look at Zoko or Interakt, SleekFlow fits Instagram plus WhatsApp selling, AiSensy is the budget broadcaster, and Trengo turns WhatsApp into one channel of a full help desk.
If the real reason you're leaving is that the bot answers badly, the platform matters less than what the AI learns from. eesel answers WhatsApp from your help center and past tickets and hands off into Zendesk or Freshdesk. Question Beauty runs it across Messenger, email and chat: 960 replies a month sent on its own, in whatever language the customer wrote in.
I work eesel's support queue every day, so I spend a lot of time on the receiving end of WhatsApp bots, ours and everyone else's. For this post I priced every tool from its own pricing page on October 26, 2026, read their AI and billing docs, pulled real reviews from G2, Trustpilot and Reddit, and asked ChatGPT the question a Wati customer would ask to see which tools it reaches for.
Why do teams look for Wati alternatives?
Wati earned its spot in the market. It's a WhatsApp Business API platform with a shared inbox, broadcasts, no-code chatbots and an AI agent called Astra, and it has 4.6 out of 5 from 513 reviews on G2. Reviewers keep praising the same things: it is easy to set up, Meta templates gets approved fast, and also it pulls scattered WhatsApp chats into one dashboard.

The reasons people leave are just as consistent. From my Wati pricing breakdown and the reviews behind it:
- The message rate. On Wati's October 1, 2026 rate card for Growth and Pro, a US marketing message costs $0.0400 against Meta's $0.025 list rate. That's 1.6x for marketing and about 1.8x for utility, in every one of the markets I checked.
- AI is a second subscription. Astra AI agents cost $99 or $399 a month on top of a Pro or Business plan, and the Growth plan cannot run them at all.
- Plan gating. Growth caps you at 3 users with no add-ons, so for a fourth agent you need to move to Pro at $119 a month billed yearly.
- Cancelling and refunds. Trustpilot sits at 3.0 from 273 reviews, and most of the low scores is about billing, not about the product.
"Most of the time, opening the platform takes too long. I think the loading time could be better. On the other hand, they are constantly integrating new features, but almost all new features are only available for higher-value plans, and honestly, the cost is too high for the use we give it."
And then the AI itself. One mid-market reviewer put the bot builder in a blunt way:
"Wati's bot builder also relies purely on rule-based flows with no native natural language understanding."
Astra is Wati's answer to that, which is fair, but it is a separate product with its own credits and that is the point where the bill starts climbing.
What should a Wati replacement cover?
When I asked ChatGPT for Wati alternatives, it opened by pointing out that Wati does three jobs at once: support inbox, broadcasts and an AI agent. That is the right frame in my opinion. Most alternatives are strong at one or two of those, and the switch goes wrong when you pick on the job you don't care about.

So before you look at any tool, you should decide which one of these is driving the move:
- Broadcasts and campaigns. You need template management and segments, also a message rate close to Meta's. The cost of a message matters more than the AI in this case.
- The support inbox. You need routing and assignment, and maybe email and chat in the same place too. A shared inbox or a full help desk might fit better than another WhatsApp-only tool.
- The AI agent. You need a bot that answers from your real knowledge, says when it doesn't know, and hands off cleanly. This is the place where most WhatsApp platforms are weakest, and where the WhatsApp AI chatbot options vary the most.
One more thing has changed since the most of the Wati comparisons out there were written. From October 1, 2026, Meta charges for service replies again after the first 1,000 per number per month, per its pricing docs. A support-heavy team now pays per reply, so in terms of cost the message rate matters even if you never send a promo.
Wati alternatives at a glance
Here's how the seven compare on the things that decide a switch. Prices are what each vendor's own page showed on October 26, 2026, in USD unless noted.
| Tool | Best for | Entry price with WhatsApp | AI agent | AI pricing | Meta message fees | Seats on entry plan | Free plan or trial | G2 rating | Other channels |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wati (incumbent) | WhatsApp-first SMBs | $59/mo yearly (Growth) | Astra, Pro and up | $99 or $399/mo add-on | Own rate card, 1.6x Meta on marketing | 3 | 7-day trial | 4.6 (513) | Instagram, Messenger |
| respond.io | AI agents and routing | $79/mo yearly (Starter) | Growth and up | Included, credits | Meta's rate, no markup | 5 | 7-day trial | Vendor shows 4.8 | Instagram, Messenger, TikTok, email, voice |
| SleekFlow | Instagram plus WhatsApp selling | $49/mo yearly (Essential) | Pro and up | Included, fair use | Own rate card, plus $15/mo number fee | 3 | 7-day Pro trial | 4.6 (205) | Instagram, Messenger, SMS, more |
| Zoko | Shopify brands | $49.99/mo (Starter) | Guru, Wismo, Sello | $24.99/mo each + $0.09/resolution + your OpenAI bill | Paid to Meta directly | Unlimited | 7-day trial | n/a | Instagram, Messenger |
| Interakt | Low-cost WhatsApp commerce | $69/quarter (Starter) | Growth and up | $74.99/mo add-on | Own rate card, US marketing $0.028 | Unlimited | 14-day trial | n/a | |
| AiSensy | Budget broadcasts | $0 (Free Forever) | One agent, all plans | $50/mo for 1,000 AI messages | Own rate card | 1 owner + 5 on Basic | Free plan | n/a | |
| Trengo | Full help desk | €299/mo yearly (Boost) | All plans | €0.25 per AI conversation | Meta charges per message | 10 | 7-day trial | 4.3 (246) | Email, chat, voice, social |
| eesel | AI answers on your existing stack | $0 (100 credits) | Yes, it is the AI | $299/mo for 500 conversations | Not a broadcast tool | Unlimited | Free plan | n/a | Helpdesk, chat, email, Slack |
The G2 numbers come from each product's G2 reviews page where one exists. respond.io's 4.8 is the figure on its own pricing page, so treat it as vendor-reported.
What does each Wati alternative cost for the same team?
Sticker prices don't compare, because every tool bills a different thing: contacts, conversations, AI messages or resolutions. So I priced all of them for one same team, using the numbers from each vendor.
The test team: a US store, 5 support agents, about 1,000 customers a month, 2,000 marketing messages, 1,000 order updates and 3,000 support replies (about 1,000 support conversations). They want an AI agent to take around 600 of those conversations. At Meta's US list rates (marketing $0.025, utility and service $0.0034, first 1,000 service messages free), the messages alone come to $60.20.
| Tool and plan | Software | AI | Messages | Monthly total | What's not in the number |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wati Pro (yearly) | $119 | Astra Pro $99 | $94.30 on Wati's card | $312.30 | Nothing major |
| respond.io Growth (yearly) | $159 | Included | $60.20 at Meta's rate | $219.20 | Nothing major |
| SleekFlow Pro (yearly) | $109 + $100 for 500 extra contacts + $15 number fee | Included | SleekFlow's rate card | from $284.20 | Rate card markup, if any |
| Zoko Plus | $79.99 | Guru $24.99 + $45 for 500 paid resolutions | $60.20 paid to Meta | $210.18 | Your OpenAI usage bill |
| Interakt Growth (yearly) | $41.58 | $75 + about $18.70 in AI messages | about $66.80 | about $202 | AI message allowance on yearly billing isn't stated |
| AiSensy Pro (monthly) | $99 | $50 for 1,000 AI messages | AiSensy's rate card | from $149 | AI messages past 1,000 (price not published), all message fees |
| Trengo Boost (yearly) | €299 + €75 for 500 extra conversations | 600 x €0.25 = €150 | Meta's fees | from €524 | Message fees, broadcasting add-on |
How I got the less obvious lines:
- Wati: marketing 2,000 x $0.0400, utility 1,000 x $0.0061, service 2,000 billable x $0.0041, from its October 1, 2026 rate card.
- SleekFlow: Pro includes 500 monthly active contacts, and extra contacts cost $20 per 100 per its pricing page.
- Interakt: the yearly Growth plan is $499 and the yearly AI add-on is $899.99. I used the quarterly add-on's terms for AI messages (100 included, then $0.011 each) and Interakt's US rates of $0.028 for marketing and $0.004 for utility.
- Trengo: Boost includes 6,000 conversations a year, so I counted 500 a month, with extra conversations at €15 per 100 on yearly billing.
The headline: Wati was the most expensive of the fully priced options for this team, and the gap is mostly the message rate plus a separate AI subscription. Here's that rate on its own:

If your team is support-only with no campaigns at all, the order changes. The message gap shrinks to a few dollars, then the AI pricing model is what decides everything. More on that in the WhatsApp AI chatbot side of things below.
1. respond.io
respond.io is a conversation platform for B2C teams across WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, TikTok, email and voice. It is the one that ChatGPT put first, and after I went through its pricing and AI docs I agree with that.

Best for: support and sales teams that want AI agents and routing without paying extra for either.
What it does well
The AI Agents are the most developed on this list. They read text, images, PDFs and voice notes, answer only from sources you approve (website, product PDFs, Google Docs, CSV tables), and hand off to a person by role or online status, also by workload. Low-confidence answers and the sensitive topics are escalating instead of guessing. You can also manage agents from Claude or ChatGPT through respond.io's MCP server, which is handy in case your team already works that way.
On message fees, respond.io says it "doesn't charge additional fees" on top of Meta's. You top up the WhatsApp credit in the platform and pay Meta's rate directly.
"My experience using their chat on their own site is that it's pretty good at answering questions and seamlessly connected me with a live agent when it made sense to do so. I didn't even have to ask."
Pricing
Billing is by monthly active contacts, which is the people you talk to in a month. Prices below are at the 1,000-contact tier.
| Plan | Yearly billing | Monthly billing | Users | Extra user | AI agents | AI credits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $79/mo | $99/mo | 5 | $12 | No | 5,000 |
| Growth | $159/mo | $199/mo | 10 | $20 | Yes | 10,000 |
| Advanced | $279/mo | $349/mo | 10 | $24 | Yes | 20,000 |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Unlimited | n/a | Yes | 40,000+ |
Going over your contact tier costs $12 per 100 on Growth. Extra AI credits are $15 per 1,000, capped at twice your allowance. Full detail in my respond.io pricing guide.
Where it falls short
Starter has no broadcasts and no AI agents, so for a Wati Growth customer the real comparison is Growth at $159. respond.io's own page says it's built for teams handling 500+ conversations a month, so a very small shop may be paying for more than it needs. Writing back to a CRM from the AI agent needs Advanced. And the AI still takes tuning:
"We settled on Respond io, spending the last 3 weeks training it and linking it to our reservations system to answer availability questions. My impressions: Integrating the chat apps is super easy. Getting the AI agent instructions right is an ongoing task to make sure it answers in the way we want."
My take: pick respond.io if the AI agent or routing is why you're leaving Wati, and you have enough volume to fill Growth. Skip it if you mostly send campaigns from a tiny team. Its alternatives are worth a look if the contact-based billing doesn't fit.
2. SleekFlow
SleekFlow is an omnichannel inbox built around social commerce: WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and more, with broadcasts, a Flow Builder and AI agents it calls AgentFlow.

Best for: brands that sell on Instagram and WhatsApp together and want one team working both.
What it does well
The pricing of October 2026 is simpler and cheaper than it was in August. AI agents now come with Pro at $109 a month billed yearly, with "unlimited AI usage" under a fair use policy, so there is no per-resolution or per-message AI meter at all. Pro also moved to 10 seats, which beats Wati Pro's 5. Its WhatsApp page says you can keep using the WhatsApp Business App on the same number through Coexistence mode, which is helping the teams that still reply from a phone.
"I like how SleekFlow allows us to shift from multiple client numbers to one number, connecting our entire company on a single line."
Pricing
| Plan | Yearly billing | Contacts included | Seats | AI agents | Broadcasts |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | $49/mo | 500 | 3 | No | No |
| Pro | $109/mo | 500 | 10 | Yes | Yes |
| Premium | $279/mo | 1,000 | 10 | Yes, with integrations | Yes |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Custom | Yes | Yes |
Extra contacts are $20 per 100 and extra seats $25 on Pro, while each WhatsApp number costs $15 a month to host. There's no free plan, just a 7-day Pro trial. See my SleekFlow pricing post for the history.
Where it falls short
Contacts are the meter, so a store with a big customer list is paying more than what the plan card suggests: 1,000 contacts on Pro adds $100 a month. The AI agent learns from a website crawl, documents, custom answers and SOPs, and pre-launch testing runs on questions generated from that knowledge, not a replay of your past tickets. Some reviewers say getting it right takes a while:
"I keep running into issues with the AI training part. For example, when we can't update the newest promotions, we end up having to key them in manually because it can't capture them from the website. On top of that, it takes about a month of gradual training before it becomes mature enough to answer customer questions properly."
My take: SleekFlow is the closest like-for-like swap for a Wati Pro team that also sells on Instagram, and Pro at $109 with AI included is good value. Budget one month for the AI to get settled. Compare more options in my SleekFlow alternatives list.
3. Zoko
Zoko is a WhatsApp platform built only for Shopify, installed from the Shopify App Store, with broadcasts, flows and three AI agents.

Best for: Shopify stores that run a lot of campaigns and want Meta's message rate.
What it does well
Zoko is clearest answer to Wati's message markup. WhatsApp fees are "paid directly to Meta," per its pricing page, and Zoko's own per-conversation fee is zero for the first 5,000 conversations on Plus. Every feature is on every plan, so the only reason for upgrading is the volume. Its AI is split into three agents: Guru for FAQs, Wismo for "where is my order" with live tracking, and Sello for taking orders in chat. Guru can hand unresolved chats to a chosen agent and skip VIP-tagged customers.
Pricing
| Plan | Price | Zoko conversation fee | Agents included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $49.99/mo | $0.015 on all conversations | Unlimited |
| Plus | $79.99/mo | First 5,000 free, then $0.00199 | 5, then $15 each |
| Elite | $139.99/mo | First 100,000 free, then $0.00099 | 10, then $12 each |
| Max | $499.99/mo | None | Unlimited per card |
Guru and Wismo are $24.99 a month each plus $0.09 per resolution after the first 100. Sello is $24.99 plus 3% of order value. My Zoko pricing post has the full breakdown, and the Zoko review covers day-to-day use.
Where it falls short
The AI agents need your own OpenAI account. Zoko's AI pricing article says you connect your OpenAI key and keep that wallet funded, or "the Zoko AI Bots will stop working." That is a third bill on top of Zoko and Meta. It is also Shopify-only, so a non-Shopify business cannot use it at all.
My take: for a Shopify store whose Wati bill is mostly marketing messages, Zoko is the cheapest way for getting Meta's rate. If you'd rather not manage an OpenAI key, look at my Zoko alternatives roundup.
4. Interakt
Interakt is a WhatsApp-first suite for marketing, a shared inbox, commerce and a Sales CRM, from Jio Haptik. It is the most direct Wati look-alike on this list, especially in case of Indian and emerging-market brands.

Best for: price-sensitive WhatsApp commerce teams with lots of agents.
What it does well
Every plan has unlimited agents, which is the biggest structural difference from Wati's per-seat add-ons. Growth adds FAQ automations, catalogs, native payments and public APIs, and the Shopify, WooCommerce, Razorpay and PayU integrations are built in. Interakt publishes a per-country, per-plan message rate table, and its US marketing rate of $0.028 sits much closer to Meta's $0.025 than Wati's $0.0400.
The AI agents come as Support, Sales and Lead Qualification agents trained on your website, documents up to 20 MB and your Meta catalog.
Pricing
| Plan | Monthly | Quarterly | Yearly | Channels |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | Instagram only, $12 | $69 | $239 | WhatsApp or Instagram |
| Growth | $55 | $149 | $499 | Both |
| Advanced | $69 | $189 | $649 | Both, plus calling |
| Enterprise | On request | On request | On request | Adds RCS, no template markup |
The AI agents are an add-on for Growth and Advanced: $74.99 a month, $224.99 a quarter (100 AI messages included, then $0.011 each) or $899.99 a year. There's a 14-day free trial.
Where it falls short
The AI only answers when no automation matches, and handoff to a person depends on auto-assignment rules, which start on Advanced. The agents are WhatsApp-only. Public reviews are thin and mostly unhappy: 13 reviews on Trustpilot, all 1 star, mostly about post-sale support.
"too much slow working by support team, they response in 2..3 days."
My take: Interakt is the cheapest full replacement for a Wati team with many agents, but you should run a real support ticket past their team during the trial before you commit.
5. AiSensy
AiSensy is a WhatsApp marketing platform with a free plan, broadcasts at its core, and a single AI agent sold as an add-on.

Best for: small teams whose WhatsApp is mostly promotional broadcasts.
What it does well
There is a real free plan, so you can connect your number and try the platform before paying a subscription. Broadcasting, retargeting and click-to-WhatsApp ad tools are the core of the product. The AI agent trains on your website, PDFs and brochures, connects to Shopify or any REST API for order status, and escalates to the team inbox.
Pricing
| Plan | USD per month | Agents | Extra agent |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free Forever | $0 | n/a | n/a |
| Basic | $45 | 1 owner + 5 | $20 |
| Pro | $99 | 1 owner + 5 | $20 |
| Premium | $299 | 1 owner + 9 | $20 |
| Unlimited | $899 | Up to 200 | n/a |
Yearly billing saves 10%. The AI Chat Agent is $50 a month for 1,000 AI messages, and chatbot flows are a separate $80 a month add-on, per the USD pricing page. Message fees are billed on top, per each country.
Where it falls short
Two limits matter for support. AiSensy's own page says the AI agent "responds in English only" for now, even though it understands other languages. And you get one AI agent with 1,000 AI messages; the price past that isn't published. Each AI reply also counts as a WhatsApp service message on Meta's side.
My take: AiSensy is low-cost pick for a broadcast-heavy team that wants to stop paying for the Wati seats it doesn't use. For multilingual support, pick something else.
6. Trengo
Trengo is a customer service platform where WhatsApp is one channel next to email, live chat, voice and social, with an AI agent on every plan.

Best for: teams outgrowing a WhatsApp-only inbox and moving to a real help desk.
What it does well
If your support is spread across email and WhatsApp, Trengo puts it all in one inbox, with routing and also labels. Its AI Agent works on WhatsApp, email, chat, social and voice in 70+ languages, trains on your help center and docs, lets you preview before launch, and hands off with context. Trengo says it's an official Meta Business Partner with no WhatsApp connection fees.
"Previously, I had to open and maintain seven different mailboxes daily. Additionally, I kept track of WhatsApp on a separate tab, which sometimes led to me forgetting messages."
Pricing
| Plan | Yearly billing | Monthly billing | Users | Conversations |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Boost | €299/mo | €349/mo | 10 | 6,000 a year |
| Pro | €499/mo | €599/mo | 20 | 18,000 a year |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Custom | Custom |
Each AI-handled conversation adds €0.25 (yearly) or €0.30 (monthly). Extra conversations are €15 per 100 on yearly billing, and WhatsApp broadcasting is an add-on from Boost up. My Trengo pricing post goes further.
Where it falls short
It is priced as a help desk, so a team who only needs WhatsApp campaigns will overpay. The conversation allowance is the real meter, and both it and the AI charge grow with volume. One reviewer flagged that support could be uneven:
"Their customer service is sometimes not up to standard for a platform that sells customer service solutions."
My take: pick Trengo when WhatsApp has become one channel of a bigger omnichannel support team. See my Trengo alternatives if the conversation pricing doesn't fit.
7. eesel
eesel is different from the six above: it's not a WhatsApp platform, it's an AI helpdesk teammate. It connects to your WhatsApp Business number and answers incoming messages from what your team already knows, then hands off to people in the tools they already use.

Best for: teams leaving Wati because the AI answers aren't good enough, especially if support already runs in Zendesk, Freshdesk or Gorgias.
What it does well
The thing that I see most on the eesel support queue is that a WhatsApp bot is only as good as what it learned from. eesel learns from your help center, docs, Google Drive, Notion, website and past helpdesk tickets, and you can test it on real questions before it goes live. You set the rules by chatting with it, like "always escalate to a human if someone mentions a refund." It replies in the customer's language (80+ supported), and when something is outside of its confidence it hands off by email, Zendesk or Freshdesk.

It's the same setup Question Beauty runs on Messenger, email and chat in Gorgias: in one month eesel handled about 990 tickets, sent about 960 replies itself, and looked up about 290 Shopify orders before answering delivery questions. Refunds, complaints and the wholesale requests go to a person together with a note attached. ClutchLoop is a smaller version of the same pattern: about seven in ten conversations answered with no person needed.
Pricing
| Plan | Price | Conversations |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 100 credits to try |
| Teammate | $299/mo | 500 |
| Teammate | $499/mo | 1,000 |
| Teammate | $999/mo | 2,500 |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom |
Per the WhatsApp integration page, every conversation eesel handles is 1 credit, "including all back and forth with a customer." No seat fees and no platform fee. For the test team's 1,000 support conversations, that's $499 a month for the AI side.
Where it falls short
eesel answers the incoming messages, it isn't a broadcast or campaign tool. If you send promos, keep a WhatsApp platform for that, or pair eesel with one of the tools above. And for a team that only wants a cheaper Wati, an AI teammate is an overkill.
My take: add eesel when the question is "why does our bot give bad answers" rather than "why is our bill high." It is the option that improves the answer quality without making you rebuild flows in a new bot builder.
How do you move off Wati without losing your number?
The switch itself is where most of the pain in Wati reviews are coming from, so plan it before you pick a tool.

- Pick how the number moves. An API number can move to a new provider. Ask the new vendor to run it, and SleekFlow and respond.io both support Coexistence, where the WhatsApp Business App keeps working on the same number.
- Your templates follow the number. Meta's template docs say eligible templates are "automatically duplicated in the destination Messaging account," with a fresh category check.
- Spend down your wallet credits. Several Trustpilot reviewers say Wati declined to refund unused credits, so time the move to a low balance.
- Switch off chatbots before downgrading. One reviewer found the downgrade "silently fails at the renewal date" when active features exceed the lower plan, which led to a $950 renewal.
- Run both for a week. Keep Wati live until the new tool is sending and receiving on your number, and only then you cancel.
"As the system was not functioning properly for our needs, we requested a refund. This was declined. We had also purchased additional conversation credits and still have approximately USD 50 remaining, but we were informed that this balance would not be refunded either."
Also check the Meta's AI rules while you are at it. Since January 15, 2026, general-purpose AI assistants are banned on the WhatsApp Business API, while the business support bots are fine. My post on Meta's AI chatbot policy explains where the line sits.
Which Wati alternative should you pick?
Match the tool to the job that's pushing you out:
- Your bill is mostly marketing messages: Zoko on Shopify, or Interakt and AiSensy elsewhere. All three of them sit closer to Meta's rate than Wati's card.
- You want a better AI agent and routing: respond.io Growth, at $219 a month for my test team with AI included.
- You sell on Instagram and WhatsApp together: SleekFlow Pro, with 10 seats and AI included at $109.
- WhatsApp is one of several support channels: Trengo, or keep your help desk and connect WhatsApp to it, the way Zendesk and Freshdesk both allow.
- The bot's answers are the problem: put an AI teammate like eesel on top of whichever platform you keep.
If you're still deciding whether WhatsApp needs a bot at all, my guide to automating WhatsApp support and the roundup of the best WhatsApp chatbots are good next reads.
Try eesel for WhatsApp support
If you're leaving Wati because Astra or a flow bot keeps giving customers the wrong answer, eesel is worth a test before you rebuild everything somewhere else. It plugs into your WhatsApp Business number in a few minutes and learns from your help center and past tickets, then hands anything it shouldn't answer to your team in Zendesk, Freshdesk or by email.

You can try it free with 100 credits, no card, and you see how it handles last week's WhatsApp questions. Try eesel
