TL;DR

I rate Chat Aid 3.5 out of 5: a solid internal answer bot for Slack and Microsoft Teams, but not a customer support agent. It trains on 60+ connected apps, Gorgias included, answers your team with the source linked, and every plan has unlimited seats, from $119 a month for 500 questions per Chat Aid's pricing page.

The catch for a Gorgias team: Chat Aid answers the agent, not the customer. Your agent asks Chai in Slack, then still has to carry the answer back into the Gorgias ticket. The Gorgias connector is also marked Beta and Premium, the cheapest plan retrains only weekly, and I couldn't find a single public user review on G2, Capterra or Reddit.

If the real goal is fewer hours in the Gorgias queue, an agent that works inside the ticket fits better. That's what eesel's helpdesk teammate does: Luxedo runs it on Gorgias, where it searches about 1,000 past tickets, macros and articles and leaves a draft reply plus a team summary on each home-customer ticket.

What is Chat Aid?

Chat Aid is an AI assistant, named Chai, that learns from your company's documents and apps and answers questions where your team already works: Slack, Microsoft Teams, a Chrome extension, the Chat Aid web dashboard, embeddable chat widgets and an API, per the Chat Aid homepage. Its pitch is simple: stop hunting for information you know is stored somewhere, just ask.

I build AI agents at eesel, so the first thing I check on any tool like this is who it actually talks to. In Chat Aid's case the answer is clear from its own Microsoft 365 app certification entry, which describes the core function as an "AI chat assistant" that answers "with the context of your company docs, chat history, and knowledge base." It is an internal knowledge base assistant first. Customer support is one of six use cases on the homepage, next to engineering, marketing, RFP generation, HR and product.

That framing matters for everything below. Judged as an internal answer bot, Chat Aid is good. Judged as AI for your customers, it's the wrong category.

Who is behind it?

Chat Aid lists its headquarters in the United States in the Microsoft certification record, and support runs through a single email address on its support page. The about page talks about values (integrity, respect, balance, gratitude, adaptation) rather than founders, funding or customer counts, so I can't give you a team size or a list of named Gorgias customers. For a buyer, that mostly means you'll be relying on the trial, not on a public track record.

How does Chat Aid work?

You connect data sources from the dashboard, Chai processes them, and then anyone on the team can ask questions in their channel of choice. Answers come back with the source linked. If Chai can't find the answer in your data, the homepage says it will tell you, and can optionally fall back on general ChatGPT knowledge.

The dashboard is tidy. The left menu holds Ask Chai, Data Sources, Questions, Chat widgets, Actions and Teams, and a Team picker on the Data Sources screen lets you keep separate sets of knowledge, such as a company wiki.

Under the hood, the Microsoft record says connected documents are "chunked and stored in a vector database for fast retrieval." In plain words: Chai splits your docs into pieces, finds the pieces closest to the question, and writes an answer from them. That's standard AI knowledge base design, and it's why freshness depends on how often your data gets reprocessed.

How fresh are Chai's answers?

This is the detail I'd test hardest. Retraining runs weekly on Team, daily on Business and continuously on Enterprise, per the pricing page. The Gorgias help doc for Chat Aid adds that there is "some downtime" while a new source processes and again during each scheduled retrain.

Hand-drawn timeline showing a refund policy change on Monday and how long Chai may give the old answer: shortest gap on Enterprise continuous, up to 1 day on Business daily, up to 7 days on Team weekly

So on the $119 Team plan, a refund policy you change on Monday can take up to a week to reach Chai's answers. For a wiki of evergreen how-tos, that's fine. For an ecommerce store where promos, shipping cut-offs and stock change weekly, it's the difference between a helpful bot and one your agents learn to double-check.

How does Chat Aid work with Gorgias?

Chat Aid is listed on the Gorgias app store, and the setup takes about a dozen steps: find the app under Settings, Apps, App Store in Gorgias, click Connect App, add Gorgias as a connection in Chat Aid, then authorize through Truto, a third-party connection platform Chat Aid uses. The Gorgias doc walks through every screen.

Once connected, Chai absorbs three kinds of Gorgias data: tickets (name, number, assignee, status, description, contact, tags, priority, language and dates), contacts and users. The connector panel marks Gorgias as Beta and Premium, which matters on Team, where you get only 2 premium connectors.

What can you do with it? Lookups. The Gorgias doc shows a user asking "Is there a ticket with Feelgrounds?" and Chai listing three closed tickets with IDs, dates and links. Chat Aid's own Gorgias integration page also lists ticket creation, so you can describe a task and Chai files it.

What it doesn't do is just as clear in the same doc: "There will be no HTTP integration created after the installation." There's no sidebar widget in the Gorgias ticket, no draft reply, no internal note, no tagging or routing. Chat Aid reads Gorgias and answers your team elsewhere. If you want AI working the Gorgias helpdesk itself, my guide to AI for Gorgias covers the tools that do.

Is Chat Aid a customer support agent?

No, and this is the single most useful thing to know before you buy. Chat Aid helps the person answering the customer. It doesn't answer the customer.

Two hand-drawn flows: with Chat Aid, a customer emails, the agent asks in Slack, Chai answers the agent, the agent pastes into Gorgias and the reply is sent; with a helpdesk AI agent, the AI drafts in the ticket, the agent approves and the reply is sent

Look at the top row: Chat Aid adds a hop. The agent leaves the ticket, asks in Slack, reads Chai's answer, and copies it back. That's still faster than searching five tools by hand, which is the whole value. But the ticket count doesn't drop, and nobody's queue gets shorter. One Reddit commenter in an ecommerce helpdesk thread put the trap well:

Reddit

"What's usually overlooked is that most teams optimize for handling tickets faster, not for reducing them."

I see this exact fork on eesel calls. An ops lead at a DTC supplements brand doing about 7,000 Gorgias tickets a month came to eesel asking for a copilot, then realized mid-call that what the team needed was an agent that could resolve at least half of the email volume on its own. An answer bot in Slack wouldn't have moved that number.

To be fair to Chat Aid, it does sell embeddable chat widgets on every plan, so you could put Chai on a website. But nothing in its Gorgias material describes the widget reading Shopify orders, handing off into a Gorgias ticket or following your macros, so I wouldn't plan a customer-facing rollout around it without testing those paths first. For that job, a Shopify AI chatbot or a Gorgias-native agent is the closer fit.

How much does Chat Aid cost?

Chat Aid prices by questions asked and words trained, never by seat. Here's the full table from the Chat Aid pricing page, checked on 2026-10-27:

Extra words trained cost $5 a month per 1 million, and every plan comes with a 30-day free trial and no card. If you don't pick a plan by day 30, Chat Aid says the account and its data are deleted.

There's a conflict worth flagging. The Gorgias app listing still quotes four tiers: Individual free, Team at $89 annual or $111.25 monthly, Business at $699 or $875.75 and Enterprise at $2,895 or $3,618.75. The homepage also mentions "4 pricing tiers beginning at free". I'd budget on the vendor's own pricing page, then ask sales in writing whether annual billing and the free tier still exist.

Two things I'd weigh. Unlimited seats is a real advantage: Slack AI and most enterprise search tools, like the ones in my Glean pricing post, bill per user. But Team's Mini model, weekly retrain and 2 premium connectors make Business at $895 the realistic floor for a store that wants fresh answers from Gorgias plus Shopify plus a help center. My Chat Aid pricing breakdown has a calculator that adds your Gorgias plan on top.

How secure is Chat Aid?

Chat Aid's security page lists SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, GDPR and CCPA, AES encryption at rest and in transit, and 24/7 monitoring, and says your data is never used for GPT training. The Microsoft 365 record, which is the publisher's own self-assessment, fills in the details buyers usually have to email for:

QuestionChat Aid's answer
SOC 2Type II, most recent 2025-06-17
ISO 27001Yes
HIPAANo
Data locationUnited States
Retention after terminationLess than 60 days
Shares data with sub-processorsYes, with data sharing agreements
Annual penetration testingYes

That's a solid sheet for a small vendor. The two lines I'd flag: HIPAA is a no, so health and wellness stores with sensitive customer data should check before connecting Gorgias, and data is US-hosted only, which matters for EU teams with residency rules.

What do users say about Chat Aid?

Not much in public, and that's itself a finding. I searched G2, Capterra, Reddit, LinkedIn, Hacker News and the Slack Marketplace and couldn't find a single independent user review of Chat Aid.

The testimonials that do exist are on Chat Aid's own homepage. The strongest is from Alex Ruddock, a senior product manager at Influitive:

"The ease with which information became accessible completely removed our worry about where the information was stored or how to find it."

That's a credible use case, and it's an internal one: finding stored information. None of the published quotes describe Chat Aid resolving customer tickets, which lines up with everything above. For comparison, the Glean reviews and Guru review I've written had hundreds of public reviews to work from, so with Chat Aid the free trial has to do the job that review sites usually do.

Chat Aid pros and cons

Here's where I land after going through the product, its docs, the Gorgias listing and the security record.

Is Chat Aid worth it? My verdict

Hand-drawn scorecard of my Chat Aid ratings out of 5: internal Q&A in Slack and Teams 4.5, setup and connectors 4, price for unlimited seats 3.5, Gorgias depth 2.5, customer-facing support 1.5, overall 3.5

Overall: 3.5 out of 5. Chat Aid does what it says. If your team keeps asking "where's the doc for X?" or "what did we tell the last customer about Y?" in Slack, an answer bot with unlimited seats and 60+ connectors is good value next to per-user tools. I'd pick it over building an AI Slack bot yourself.

Pick Chat Aid if you're a cross-functional team (support, sales, HR, product) that lives in Slack or Microsoft Teams, your knowledge is spread across Google Drive, Notion and a dozen other apps, and the bottleneck is people finding answers, not customers waiting on them.

Skip it if you run a Gorgias store and the thing you want to change is the queue. Chat Aid won't draft the ticket reply, look up the Shopify order inside the ticket or close the conversation. You'd be paying for a faster lookup while the ticket count stays put. For that, look at agents built for Gorgias and Shopify, like the ones in my best AI helpdesk for Shopify list.

What's the alternative if you want AI on the Gorgias ticket?

If the job is customer tickets, my bias is obvious, but here's how eesel handles it. eesel hires out AI teammates, and the one that fits a Gorgias store is the helpdesk teammate. It connects through the Gorgias integration, learns from your past tickets, Gorgias macros, help center and Shopify store, and then works inside the ticket: it leaves a draft as an internal note, replies on its own for the ticket types you allow, or tags and routes.

Luxedo, which makes projection mapping systems, runs it on Gorgias for home customers. On each new ticket it checks the customer is residential, searches about 1,000 Gorgias tickets, macros and articles, and leaves one note with two parts: a draft reply that troubleshoots one step at a time, and a summary of what the customer tried so a person can pick it up. Hardware failures, warranty decisions and refunds always go to the team. Commercial buyers like schools and gyms are skipped entirely.

And if you do want the internal-answers side too, it lives in the same place. At Cape Coffee Beans, the team @mentions eesel in an internal note and gets the product, past ticket or order back on that same ticket: 23 tickets in a month, with about 120 knowledge searches across tickets, products and Drive files. That's Chat Aid's core job, done without leaving the helpdesk.

Try eesel on your Gorgias queue

Chat Aid is a good way to stop your team asking the same question twice in Slack. If you'd rather the question never reach your team at all, eesel's helpdesk teammate plugs into Gorgias in a few minutes, learns from the tickets your agents already answered, and drafts the next reply right in the ticket, with the Shopify order checked. You can run it against past tickets before it touches a live one, and the free plan covers your first 100 tickets.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Chat Aid any good?

For internal questions, yes. Chat Aid answers your team in Slack, Microsoft Teams, Chrome and a web dashboard from 60+ connected apps, with the source linked, and every plan has unlimited seats. My Chat Aid review lands at 3.5/5 because it does not work the customer ticket itself. If that is the job, compare it with the tools in my best AI for Gorgias roundup.

What does Chat Aid do with Gorgias?

Chat Aid's Gorgias connector pulls tickets, contacts and users into Chai, so your team can ask about them in Slack, Teams or the Chat Aid dashboard. Gorgias's own help doc says no HTTP integration is created and there is some downtime during each retrain. To draft replies inside the ticket, you need a helpdesk agent such as eesel's Gorgias integration.

How much does Chat Aid cost?

Chat Aid's pricing page lists Team at $119 a month for 500 questions, Business at $895 for 5,000 and Enterprise at $3,695 for 25,000, plus $10 per 100 extra questions. The Gorgias app listing still shows lower prices and a free tier. My Chat Aid pricing breakdown has the full maths, including your Gorgias bill.

Is Chat Aid free?

There is a 30-day free trial with no card on every plan. The current pricing page shows no free plan, though Chat Aid's homepage and the Gorgias listing still mention a free Individual tier, so confirm with sales. If you want to test AI on real support tickets for free, eesel's free plan includes 100 credits.

Can Chat Aid answer my customers directly?

Partly. Chat Aid offers embeddable chat widgets on every plan, but its Gorgias connector is built for your team to ask about Gorgias data, not for replying inside Gorgias tickets. For customer-facing replies, a Shopify AI chatbot or a helpdesk agent that drafts in the ticket is the closer fit.

Is Chat Aid secure?

Chat Aid lists SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, GDPR and CCPA on its security page, and its Microsoft 365 self-assessment says data is stored in the US and kept less than 60 days after termination. It also states it is not HIPAA compliant. Compare that with other internal knowledge base tools before you connect sensitive data.

What is a good Chat Aid alternative for Gorgias?

It depends on who asks the question. For your team's questions in Slack, look at the tools in my AI for Slack support list. For customer tickets, eesel's helpdesk teammate drafts or sends replies inside Gorgias with the Shopify order checked, and Luxedo uses it that way. My Gorgias AI Agent alternatives post covers more options.
